Ford Focus 1.6TDCi - Info needed please

Hello everyone
I would like some advice please.
Currently I live in Bridlington and I also work in Brid to.
Our work premises are now to small and we are relocating to the outskirts of Hull.
At the moment we currently have a 1.6petrol Astra but when we move it will be a sixty mile a day round trip and I would like something more economical.
I have my eye on a Ford Focus 1.6TDCi 2011 or 2012 plate.
I have read a lot of reviews on the car but some people say the mpg is 60+ and others say it only does 40+.
If anyone owns a Ford Focus could you tell me please what MPG you are getting and also have you had any problems with the car.

Many thanks in advance for any help and advice, its very much appreciated.

  • the 1.6tdci now has an cousin, the 1.5tdci which has an equal amount of umphh but is slightly more economical.

I have the 1.6tdci and I get around 65mpg mixed with it rising about another 4/5 on motorway runs.

    Yes Peugeot engine.
What little bit you save on fuel, will be spent on repairs, when they start playing up, they dont do it by halves.
MPG gets exaggerated somewhat, 44- 46 mpg will be more realistic on that road as its not the best torq engine made, you need to floor it a bit.
The 1.6 astra should be pulling 39 ish on the same run if well serviced with good clean spark plugs and filters .
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • I get well above 44-46, then again I drive like a nun.

MPG will vary depending on how you drive, the journey type and the traffic conditions.

When i bought my last car i started keeping a log of the fuel.

Worked out at every fill up averages over a full tank of fuel varied from 28mpg to 57mpg.

Both of those are the correct average mpg over a full tank of fuel.

Same car, No issues or problems between the figures. The 28mpg was during the winter so speeds were lower and the car sitting idle as the windows de-iced. 57mpg was longer journeys with very little traffic overall.

That 1.6TDCI engine doesnt have the bet reputation. Make sure it gets LOTS of oil changes with a good quality oil. I would look for one that had oil changes at less than 10,000 miles.

Not the best but at least sometime round 2009-2010 they started fitting the upgraded version of the engine to stop the turbo blowing up.

As long as it's an 09 build and not an older car registered in 09 the they maybe ok.
