Just so people know - this person initially approached me with yahoo messaging, possibly to disguise the header or possibly to disguise their poor English. Unfortunately, it means I only have copies of the emails they sent me and not the message conversations.

Have they given an address for this flat?

I think the Real Hustle did a version of this where they borrowed a flat (hired it off someone for cash - probably duped them too) for a day and then took viewings, taking cash deposits off half a dozen people, then skipping off with the money.

They gave me the road, but that was it. They would not let me see the property unless I sign an agreement, which of course I didn't.

Anyone else come across this? She claims that it's because neither her or O/H are in London and can't do viewings... I'm not sure I buy this.

I have seen a scam where people were asked to pay to be introduced to landlords. The scam artists were claiming that they knew of properties all over London at infeasibly low prices.

In this instance, I wasn't stupid enough to hand over any money.

I know someone who works with security teams in Nigeria to have people like this shut down permanently. If you can PM me their messaging handle, I can pass it onto them and they can hopefully stop this individual from causing any more problems.

It's interesting that you listed with gumtree, as s imilar thing was commenced with me, but in my case in response to me advertising a TV unit for sale.
It seems that most people now have got the hang of the "I'm a deposed prince who needs to leave my country, will you lok after my money" type of scam from Nigeria, so they need ever more tricky ways of doing it.
It's a shame more people don't know how to track the email back to it's source country. That may save a lot of people heartache.
Some people are like a slinky. Not much use for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

i got into a email communication with someone who wanted to buy a couple of wardrobes i had listed there. i told them that i already had a buyer now and if they did not collect then i would let him know.

here is his response, which i thought was very dodgy.

Thanks for the swift response.Am ok with the condition,i will be buying it but i will like to tell you that i will be paying with a cashier's check which will include money for the item and the shipping charges and as for the pick up my shipper will come for the pick up at your location upon your confirmation of receiving the payment and i dont want you to negotiate this with any other buyer cos i really need it from you.i would have loved to come down for me to see it and pickup, but am not chance to do that now but am satisfy with your discription of it. i will like you to give me the following information so that your payment can be sent.................
1....your full name to be on the check
2..your full contact ad and phone number
thanks a lothope to do more business with you in the nearest future.
    best regards
    dave

i guess the scam would be for me to cash the cheque and then it bounces.
