If a lot of the £10k was incurred due to household spending, then definitely tell your husband as obviously somewhere down the line the communication between you has failed and led to you solely servicing £10k of debt unnecessarily. Household spending should be budgeted for between you and this in turn after you tell him, maybe you both could sit down and run through your finances together. If you have a household ‘kitty’ then maybe he needs to be contributing more into it as clearly you didn’t have enough to clear that side of the debt which was incurred.

If you are going to need his help by using one of his existing cards to do a balance transfer, then you need to tell him the whole truth.

Talk to him, do a balance transfer from his card to your Barclaycard and then sit down and work out a budget that you can stick to in order to clear not only your Barclaycard debt, but also your other cards too. Also, once the balance transfer is done, call Barclaycard and ask them to remove the late payment marker on your files and refund the £12 fee, if this is your first doing it they are usually compliant.

    Hi
Would you suggest ringing Barclaycard and trying to sort out a payment plan, would that have a massive effect on my credit reference do you think.
    Thank you

No, don't do it if you can avoid it.

Arrangement to pay (AP) markers can stay on your files for longer than defaults.

Is having your credit rating trashed for the next 6 years really a better option than coming clean to your husband and asking for his help?

If you are finding it difficult to service your debts, what happens if you are ill or lose your job? It’s amazing how quickly things can spiral out of control, and then when you really need help, your husband may not be interested as you didn’t come to him when it could have been dealt with, you are affecting not only your financial future but your relationship future too. I urge you to talk to your husband and work out a sensible budget to clear your debts.

    Thanks Candle Apple.
I haven't rang Barclaycard. Spoke to husband who said I could pay the payment from his card, and try to bring it up to date. Would Barclaycard mark my credit file if only a part payment had been paid. I need to clear all these cards anyway. Especially as I cant even transfer them anywhere else. The only card was Capital one high interest of 34% 0% only for 6 months and the highest limit was £1500 couldnt even transfer half of it.
    Thanks for your help.

If you are talking about using your husband’s debit card to make a payment to your Barclaycard (funded from his bank account) again, partial payment still counts as a missed payment and would affect your credit files further.

What your husband needs to do is to log onto his credit card’s online facility and initiate a balance transfer from his credit card to your Barclaycard. It’s easier this way as sometimes customer service agents get funny if you are not the original cardholder doing the transfer.

If your payment now due is roughly £400 and you owe £10k, realistically, how much can your husband pay off? There’s no point doing a balance transfer for such a small amount (£400) when you really need to be making huge inroads into clearing it and then struggling next month when the next payment’s due.

    Hi
My husband has transferred monies onto my card from his, he did a balance transfer hopefully it goes through, as it could decline as not a joint account.
    Fingers Crossed.

    Hi
Just done an eligibility for balance transfer, not good trying to move more debt around. It did come up 90% capital one for 6 months, toying with the idea of transferring but dont know how much capital one give, As this is a high rate card would this effect my credit file,
    Not done anything yet
    Thank you
