Speed camera ? M42/A42

I've seen them flash on the M42/M6 heading towards Birmingham side before, on many occasions both with and without speed limits on the gantrys.
Most of the gantrys have the speed camera sign, with lines on the ground but not all gantrys have the cameras.
However if it was all the way out by junction 11/12 area, and was just an info sign, I wouldn't worry at all as I don't think they have speed cameras on them. Strange though.0 -
TBH, that's not the first time I've heard that. A uni housemate many years ago got done by a Truvelo and reported seeing a big red flash.
I wonder if the filters reduced in effectiveness over time?
[edit] For OP's benefit, there are no Truvelo cameras on the A/M42.
So are you now accepting forward facing cameras can be used for speed enforcement?0 -

No; to my knowledge they should not visibly flash into the driver's face, though I acknowledge anecdotal suggestions that Truvelo cameras are sometimes known to.
The reasons ought to be obvious, but admittedly doesn't stop their use in European countries.
Whether this would affect a conviction is beyond my knowledge, though none of this is relevant to topic as there are no fixed cameras where the OP reported the event.0 -

Truvelo are set for forward facing enforcement. Another user has even posted a well known location for them on the A45 on the approach to the Ryton Island. Yet you're still wrongly claiming they are not type approved. Can you back this up?0 -
Thanks for all comments
If it is a speed camera I will back yo let you know in about 2 weeks.
Looking at them again I "think" they are traffic monitoring cameras, some are pointing as you drive towards, others are pointing as you pass.
Just a bit concerned that it flashed, once only .0 -

A single flash would never indicate a speed camera, there would always be two flashes close together.0 -

Where did I claim they're not type approved, not forward facing or don't exist at any locations?
Truvelo have an infrared flash which is invisible (supposed to be), which is why they are type approved to be forward facing.
Anecdotes suggest that some people have perceived a flash from them. What the reason or legal ramifications of this are, I don't care; I'll leave that to the Daily Mail to publish an article on the tens of thousands of poor drivers that are being blinded by them.
There are none of this camera type on the road given by the OP, so this is irrelevant. The OP stated they perceived a flash in front of them; I've merely established that from their location, there is no way this could have been from a speed camera directed at them.0 -

Either truvelo cameras flash or people can see infra red then because they do emit a flash when they go off.0 -

Yawn. There's always one in these type of threads... #predictable
Anyway, very slightly off topic but relevant to the subject maybe? ...
