    Thanks for various comments.
It was not the M42/M6 toll bit, there is no over all lane gantry , these are the info gantrys that hang over the left hand lane,
It was between jct 11/12 on the M42( the dual carriage way bit)
It flashed me from about 100 yards away travelling towards it,
Other cars passed me , saw no flashes etc. from any other gantry.

    Ah ok;

Firstly, there are no fixed cameras on that stretch so you're fine.

Secondly, there are no type approved cameras in the UK that visibly flash in the driver's face.

There were small thunderstorms over the weekend and yesterday; the Blitzortung app on my phone reported one over Derbyshire early yesterday afternoon. Maybe you just saw some lightning?

3 points and a fine, happened to me once on the same motorway. Next time drive slower

Was that in the Yaris? You should be careful speeding in those ones with only front brakes you know.

I'd say, it was a reflection, I use that stretch and have had that before.

The blitz thing app on my phone is safety camera detector.

I think you'll find you are wrong ;)

However, I'm not convinced that the OP was flashed. For starters, how many flashes did the OP see?

That happens on a regular basis, no need to worry.

I think I'll find I'm not, unless you can substantiate your opinion with a camera type.

Note I said in the driver's face. I.e. forward facing, not rear facing like Gatso and HADECS 1/2.

[edit] and visibly; which rules out the old infrared-flashing Truvelo cameras.

To be fair, I was basing that on being flashed in 2007. Being blinded by a forward facing camera is not an experience you forget, on a par with losing your toughened windscreen (remember those days?). I suspect that the current information on Truvelo having magenta filters is that they have been altered over the past 8 years as the flash was recognised to be a problem. It was a Truvelo with the triple line across the road, on the A45 near Coventry.

TBH, that's not the first time I've heard that. A uni housemate many years ago got done by a Truvelo and reported seeing a big red flash.

I wonder if the filters reduced in effectiveness over time?

[edit] For OP's benefit, there are no Truvelo cameras on the A/M42.
