    Ooh...I'm number 3 - my favourite number :D

I have Hoover envy - DH broke my Dyson attachment thingy a couple of weeks back, so I have gaffer tape holding it together. It needs a service and the velour peeled off the upholstery nozzle yesterday, so it's feeling a bit sorry for itself.

I lurve a bit of spring cleaning - I had a massive clutter last month due to this challenge and have discovered long-forgotten corners, all splendidly festooned with cobwebs...I'm ready for this one!

My big Dys0n started to fall apart last year, including the velour off the upholstery nozzle and the main hose. I ordered several replacement parts on their website and now its almost as good as new for £36 :)

Ah, I'd not thought of that - might take a look tomorrow to see if it can be fixed. Thanks ;)

  • Happy April everyone! Need to really get back on the bandwagon this month as seem to have been spending an awful lot recently. I think part of that is just living on such a tight budget for so long, but I need to carry on until I get a better paid job - I might not have a debt anymore, but I need to build up some major savings and RDFs. So, plan for April is below - as I don't get paid until the 15th, some budgets will start from then; for example I don't need to fill my car up again before I get paid hopefully.

    2. Set ALL your budgets at the beginning of the month – plan ahead by making a list of activities, birthdays, events, savings that need to be made. Remember to think ahead for summer events that may need saving for now – holidays, weddings, extra child care to cover the summer holidays. Budget accordingly, be frugal but realistic.

    Food until 15th April: 0/£20
Spending money until 15th April: 0/£20
    Food 15th April - 15th May 0/£150
    Fuel 15th April - 15th May 0/£60
    Spending money 15th April - 15th May 0/£40

    3. Pay towards your debt first. If you are debt free, put aside some money for savings first.

    0/£100 for holiday spending money
    0/£60 (approx) for RDFs
0/£? remainder for extra savings (this is a little extra challenge for myself - I want to see how much extra I can sweep into savings on 14th may, before my next pay day!)

    4. Achieve 15 Spend Free Days (SFDs)
    0/15

    5. £5 donation to a charity or food bank of your choice
    0/£5

    6. Take your lunch to work every day – no exceptions. Feel free to share your ideas for lunches; I for one could always do with more ideas to add variety to my lunches.

Lunch to work: 0/ 19 (not back in work now until tuesday)

    7. Keep all spending to a minimum – avoid coffee shops, canteens, vending machines etc.

This really needs to be my goal for this month! I've started lazy spending again and it needs to stop asap.

    8. Spring clean your home – this will help freshen up your home but also keep you busy and distract you from spending. Last month we decluttered, so hopefully this month, the task of spring cleaning will be easier with less items to clean on/around/under.

This is actually on the list for May, after I finish my university course (I have 10,000 words and an exam to accomplish by May 18th). Great goal though, will definitely keep in mind for next month.

    9. Look after yourself – make 3 commitments to look after yourself more this month. You could commit to eat 5 fruit and veg a day, attend an exercise class once a week, have a bubble bath once a week, take the time to read a book etc.

    1. Work steadily and hard on the last few parts of my CIPD qualifications so that everything doesn't end up being a frantic rush at the end and I achieve the marks I'm capable of.

    2. Leave the office every lunchtime and take a walk.
    0/19

    3. Do at least one non work/ uni related thing per week.
    0/4

Great challenge fmess, thanks ever so much! Let's go turtles :j

Morning everyone :) Happy April :j

Stewby, what are you like :rotfl:

Sorry I didn't finish up on March. Unfortunately, my mum had to go in yesterday for an emergency blood transfusion in the morning. Due to the hospital claiming she had not been referred to them, this was started late and she has to have other unit this morning. She will also have to have B1 injections every other day for a few months too. She needs to look at medically retiring as her job has become to much for her, but she is hesitant. I told her this a long time ago, but wouldn't hear of it.She's a cook in elderly person's home and the hours are 7am till 5pm without a break  I've kept telling her to leave, but she takes pride in people complimenting her cooking.

My brother and sister who live with her are extremely immature and don't help her much although of the two, my brother is better. Yesterday, I was saying g to them that we need to sit down and work out a Rota to do mum's shopping etc as she needs complete rest. My sister's response, I can't do it as I'm very busy  Now because she's a primary school teacher, she feels she's busier than everybody else! Mum is so proud she's a teacher, she excuses her from everything. After not seeing my youngest all day yesterday, I was very annoyed. Today, he has to come to the hospital with me, which I'm not too pleased about either. No consideration is given to the fact I work also and have 4 children, only the pride and joy of the family, who also happens to be the most selfish!!!

And don't get me started on the prices of soggy sarnies in the hospital canteens! At least !!!!!! turpin wore a mask:T twenty quid for a few sandwiches and couple of cups of tea! All of this did make me feel guilty I couldn't send mum into the countryside or some wild and exotic retreat, to recuperate though. Anyway, I'm hoping she will be miles better, once all of this has been sorted out.

Well I hope everyone's spring cleaning goes well and take care of yourselves :)

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Traveller - how old are your siblings? Why have they never moved out? Family dynamics are difficult to understand at any time. I really feel for you being the only one taking any responsibility. I'm sure your Mum must know deep down the real hero of the family.
