I don't have answer for you. But I got an 02 Vectra and it says unloaded to set to 28psi.

As I was off on a long journey the other day stopped at a petrol station and paid 50p to inflate them. They were all less they suggested oops

But even after inflating them to 28psi I still think they don't look inflated enough if that makes sense.

Might nip to a car tyre place and check with them.

    Yours

I still can't give you an answer.

    So the tyres are 185 - presumably 185/55 15?

But is this the 1.0 litre or 1.2 litre or 1.4 litre or 1.8 litre petrol?

Or is it the 1.3 litre or the 1.7 litre diesel?

Or is it something else entirely?

Either you know better, or tomorrow you will be setting them correctly :)

At best, setting them all to 30psi is causing slight premature wear.

At worst, you might go into an uncontrollable skid and crash, burn and die in a horrible fireball as you lose control on a corner and slide into a bunch of children coming out of a birthday party and the ones that you didn't kill instantly will have to watch as you try to scream and kick yourself free from a horribly mangled Vx Corsa which has caught fire and your hair is burning and your fingers are melting in front of your eyes and . . . . "THINK OF THE CHILDREN".

Get your pressures right will ya, unless you know better !

    The correct pressures are:

    Front: 2.2bar - 32psi

    Rear: 1.8bar - 26psi

With under-inflated fronts and over-inflated rears the handling will be just fine ... until the day comes when you need to take emergency avoiding action, or if one day you decide to press on a bit on twisty roads if you're running a bit late.

Your front tyres will also wear more on the outer edges and the rears will wear more in the centre of the tread.

I suggest following the recommended pressures.

Can you please as a matter of urgency send all the evidence you have that higher pressures in the rear tyres leads to an unsafe vehicle to Mercedes Benz.

Tens of thousands of their vehicles will be running at the recommended pressures of 32 front and 38 rear. If it is a safety issue they really do need to be told.

Where has Ice said anything of the sort? He's said that over or under inflation is a safety issue - if MB recommend the pressures that you state then cars using those pressures will be correctly inflated. If they were to be run at 36 front and 28 then that would be an issue.

I didn't say anything like that.

I was referring only to over-inflated rear tyres in the case of a Vauxhall Corsa - made worse of course by the under-inflated front tyres.

If the OP had all 4 tyres equally under-inflated or over-inflated from the recommended figures, by the same amount - say 2 or 3psi - the effect would be smaller - but to have them all at 30 psi radically changes the balance of the vehicle.

What M-Benz recommend has nothing to do with this thread.

There will always be exceptions but generally FWD vehicles (such as the Corsa) have higher pressure in the front tyres and RWD vehicles such as most M-Benz or BMWs have higher pressure in the rear tyres.

Read it again. The poster said under inflated fronts AND over inflated rears, so rear tyres having more pressure than the front.
