Take him to ASDA and show him how people who fail exams end up .:p

Tell him he can always succeed (if, as you say, he is bright), but it will be sh**loads easier if he does some work now. I know, from bitter experience.

Its all uni students on our !!!!!! tills :D

with my youngest when he was struggling at about 14 we worked out together a potential budget sheet.
We worked out how much he would actually have in his account each month if he was working 35 hours a week on minimum wage after tax and national insurance.
Then we found from the local papers the cheapest flat he could rent (in a nasty part of town) and then added on to rent figures for bills eg house rates, water, electric, TV licence, mobile phone etc.
From what was left we took off a monthly bus pass to get to work, food, toiletries and all of the usual daily expenses and then something towards things like shoes, dentists, barbers etc.
what was left was pennies so basically it was a hand to mouth existence with no contingencies for emergencies, no car, no home of his own, no holidays, no social life - just going to work and coming back again

It did stick in his head and it did make a difference and get him to not give up however hard school work was

The more people work, the luckier they are. Don't listen to peer pressure not to revise, everyone who does well revises and "blames" luck for the right questions coming up.

I think he will do some revision but its finding a steady medium, I wish we could be given revision guides for parents I dont want to make him study all the time and come down to hard but I would like him to do his best
I think its worse as year 11 pupils get the time of for studying before the exams but he has to do his usual lessons while doing the exams so study time will be after school. and I cant make him work all the time.

ds3 got dates for his mocks and gcse s yesterday, he has been so layed back until now but seeing it in writing he is suddenly really nervous, and thinks he will fail them, he is a bright lad and I think he will do ok, but not sure what advice to give him as he always thinks what I say is patronising, obviously not good a saying what I mean:o

It always seems to be the ones that are convinced they will pass that fail, and the ones that think they will fail, and hence work harder, that pass.

I'm going to have a female related rant before I go to bed. if you're a man....scroll past quickly :D :rotfl::rotfl:

For the best part of 20 years I have have been going for smear tests and for 20 years they've been 'abnormal' resulting in some quite unpleasant treatment :o

My NHS trust has changed their testing policy and have decided instead of detecting abnormal 'likely cancer creating' cells they will test for the HPV virus instead......it's responsible for 70% of cervical cancer. I came in just after the introduction and have just had a letter today confirming my second clear from HPV smear test.

I question this :( so after nearly 20 years of abnormal tests. I have 2 clear tests after the testing policy has changed :( am I worried? YES. Have I had 20 years of unnecessary treatment? or am I missing out on treatment I should be having now? :o

I spoke to a professor at my uni the other day who was under the impression that if you have the HPV virus then it's present and doesn't ever go away.

    it's been bothering me :o

Please go back to the docs and get a second opinion.

I have had a few colcoscopy (sp) as had a many abnormal results over the years.

Unfortunately I lost my sister to cervical cancer aswell, so I now have my smear tests yearly, even though I have had clear ones now for the last 6 years, they just do it for caution.

The doctors missed my sisters cancer, she knew something was wrong, the doctors told her she was depressed and put her on antidepressants :eek::eek::eek:

We had to go private in the end because they kept fobbing her off, and they lost 3 of her smear test results which didnt help.
