MHOC, I usually take a picnic for the outward trip, and just get breakfast once off the ship. Coming back you can eat in the buffet for £16 pp. I prefer to have a meal on the way back as it keeps me out of the bar if I am having to drive the following morning.

MOHC- meant to say, I nearly went on a cruise this week with Cruise & Maritime, never cruised with them, but it was 7 nights for £350, cracking price, and it was from Newcastle, so would have saved me another £100 getting to Southampton.

We used Cruise & Maritime for a 15 days (I think it was) may have been more. Sailed in March 5 years ago, had a superb time sailed up Norweign coast and saw the Northern Lights. Some great stops but very expensive. Did dog sledding, Ice Hotel plus a late night out in the dark to see the 'lights', those were just 3 of the 6 or 7 activities that we did.
The staff were good, ship clean it was, ummmm, I can't remember the ships nAME AS I'm FLUSTERING AS going out to docs.

    Morning all.
Just had a new one on me, called EE about something, and in the queue I was offered a 'fast track' queue for 50p. So they can charge me 50p to answer my calls quicker.....and what happens if everyone selects the fast track? As it was, my call was answered in under a minute anyway.

MHOC - Not a cruise this one, well sort of, its just the P&O ferry from Hull, with a self booked hotel. Cheap as chips that ferry, so always good for a few nights away, but it is grubby compared to a cruise ship.

David. - David, dont know what your slabs are like, but if they are concrete made to look like stone, as a lot of the ones in B&Q and the likes are, there is a factory in Coxhoe that make them and supply to various garden centres, but they also sell direct and are a hell of a saving on getting them from a garden centre.

May I ask where you are from as you seem to know all the places near me ie

washing birds and Coxhoe slabs I thought the young girl I met before whose

name I can not remember said you were Darlo 0 ....or am I completely on the

wrong track..........and do you know a Floyd poster from our area ?

Working, lurking & trying to catch up on the last two days on here!

Emmap - sorry to hear your sister's flat is not as she would wish.
SSM - I hear you've booked your hols. Where are you off to?

Hugs to bubbs, FC, tweets, ILGD and anyone else in need whom I might have missed.

    Have a great day everyone.

Cruise and Maritime are good in that the smaller ships get to more interesting ports. They also go out of Hull and Newcastle and Liverpool which is excellent for us northerners who don't want the hassle of getting to Southampton or the London ports.
And they do discount quite nicely.

There are a few nice taster cruises out of Liverpool - Cruise and Maritime and FO - just Dublin and back but just enough to give a feel of being on a ship

we go down the night before and stay usually in West Quay Premier inn or sometimes Etap - if you keep watching the prices you can often get £39 a night.
Then dinner is in Ikea - Ikea is a novelty for us, OH is obsessed with meatballs. Breakfast is usually Greggs, eaten in the park, then a taxi to the dock. OK its not very flash but its suits us - plenty of glamour on the ships anyway. I am also the very worst worrier so it saves a whole world of pain

I have also heard people who drive down recommend the Holiday Inn Eastleigh, park, stay and go package - car parking while you are away, hotel and breakfast and it also includes a taxi to the port and a taxi back to the hotel afterwards - might be a good option if there is a crowd of you going altogether
