The problem is that they aren't obligated to give way until you are established on that road, and once you've stopped, you have to start all over again to regain that establishment.
Thats what I wanted to hear, because I found a highway code page saying that exact thing, that cars turning should be prepared to give way. If I had not of stopped, I would have been hit. As it stands I got clipped anyway0 -

Thats exactly the case unfortunately... No one got hurt thankfully, my car got damaged and the repair shop thinks I could be close to 1000 or more to repair it, its worth 1500 max anyhow!0 -
Looking at it from another direction, I can't see how you would be anything but held responsible...

You can see from that view why the lorry could have been in the outer lane. I can't imagine he was speeding either if he was about to turn left, in a skip lorry... Also, you could question why you could not see a lorry behind the car you should have given way to.
It's not as if you were joining the traffic from another road. Sorry, but there was minor damage and nobody was injured, count your blessings.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I have CCTV footage showing that the lane was clear well before the double yellows and that the speed of the first car was such that I it explains a little why if felt to me like he came out of nowhere. The lorry came right behind the first car that approach the turn at speed and broke heavily, the lorry was right in behind him. It was fear the first car was not going to yield that I hesitated.0 -
So the first car was so big that you couldn't see the massive skip carrying LGV driving behind it.
Perhaps if you had spent as much effort ensuring the road was clear as trying to find ways out of your responsibility you might not have been in this collision.0 -
Let's not forget that there is no priority when turning into a minor road... It's a 'give way' both in and out.0

The office parking on a whole looks iffy to me.. Is it actually dedicated parking or is it just staff using the pavements and not getting tickets?
Just looking at how cars can safely get on/off the pavement where there is a bus stop and possibility of lots of peds?
It looks like there are 8 "spaces" outside of Ormeau House, but further down towards the corner there doesnt look like they are spaces.. Just pavement.0 -

I took time, the main road was absolutely clear as I moved onto the side street, i looked ahead, all clear so i started my move, as i was "carefully turning slowly left down onto the side street", i look at again to my right to ensure i was clear as i went, thats when the first came out of the blue around the corner, he came at speed braking hard and maneouvered around my front, it was split second. like i say, all was well clear to me as i moved off. all i am doing is telling my story and seeing what consensus is.0 -

people park there everyday, as i understand they are designated spaces, the main road is also an urban clearway.
this area is like the last place before the city centre people can park for free...0 -
well if you're going to scrap with your insurer, then don't get bogged down with the parking issue...it's not material to the issue at hand.0
