Have they got filters on every extension socket, I would check that and then remove everything from all other sockets(except the filters) reboot the router and check the SNR again, and if the router shows the Data Rate Down then see what that says. If you check http://myaccount.talktalk.co.uk/speed-checker/ and see what that shows too and then try https://my.talktalk.co.uk/servicecentre/

    couple of points:-
    1. are they on an LLU connection or IPStream? Relevant as TT's DLM system is not as severe as OR's
    2. Can you post the full line stats, inc. attenuation up/down, snrm up/down, sync speed up/down ?
    3. Was it the new super router they sent you? IF so, it should be £30 well-spent, it's a pretty good bit of kit.

Personally I wouldn't listen to freddie's advice about just running away from TT.... the issue has yet to be established, and if they are on an IPStream connection that usually means it's OR's fault not TT's.

I'd login to the ADSL modem/router and see if there's any diagnostic information. You should be looking for something like "SNR Margin Down/Up". Anything less than 10 indicates the line to exchange is mullered.

Utter tosh I'm afraid, on ADSL2+ I was running at 2.5dB downstream on a 48dB line. Plus, from the earlier info, "they usually get 4.5/5 meg", so even if on an ADSL1 line they could be anywhere between 6 and 12dB downstream snrm, quite probably around 6dB.

edit:- from the 10down/40up figures quoted earlier, unless it's a router reporting fault (they aren't using a netgear DG834 router are they?) then those snrm figures look more like line attenuation figures to me, and probably should be 40down/10up attenuation, but still not quite right as the upstream is normally around half the downstream....

Me thinks the line profile has been lowered or capped, this needs to be lifted.

OK , as said before check your wiring , then get talk talk to send out OR, unfortunately , even tho you have a crap connection , you do have a connection , and you are back to square one with a bill from OR

the super router is a bit more than £30 , and it shows TTs attitude to be crap charging a long serving customer for a replacement modem

GJ hi mate  remember me (mentioned in potato sig)

Happyhero TT also have a twitface account which is better than using their phone support , and better than their forum(which is not really as fast as this one) it is here https://twitter.com/talktalkcare
BUT you need to convince them you are the account holder

Talk talk's track record isn't the greatest ....non existant custoner service in most respects

With regards to modem/routers heard a few stories of power supplys bursting into flames and routers not even working ....shoddy equipment doesn't help when there are faults on the line ....whether attenuated or not!

40.5dB down is very BAD for SNR Margin, unless they're on a really old ADSLMax connection (up to 8meg). This high value is throttling the speed.
If it actually was the noise margin it would be diabolical but it will be the line attenuation up and down for sure - you don't get to see any noise margin up so far as I recall and those figures tie in reasonably well with the original quoted speeds.

What's needed is a cut'n'paste of the full page of stats.

If I were you I would take this question over to the TalkTalk forum where they have service advisers who can test your connection and actually resolve the problem. You can also see what others have done in similar circumstances.
