Hi Queenscroft and welcome to the Forums.

Hope the move went well and you've settled in to your new flat. I know how daunting this can be particularly if it's the first time away from your parents. Already some great advice on here. Thanks all. Thought I'd pop on and confirm a few things.

As others have said, you're being charged on a single rate tariff even though you've a two rate Economy 7 meter. Unless we're told differently, it's usual when responsibility changes to continue with the previous arrangement as far as charging as single or two rate. We find this tends to best reflect the usage pattern for the property. This can, of course, change depending on the circumstances of the new occupier.

From what you've said, it looks like you're in the North West region. In this area, prices on our standard Energy Plan for Economy 7 are 17.27p per kWh day usage and 7.32p per kWh night usage. Standing Charges are the same at 24.78p per day (all prices don't include VAT). I've done a quick calculation and with the bulk of the usage at night, you'll certainly be better off on the two rate tariff. By over 24 quid on the bill you've received.

We should've spoken to you about the tariff when you phoned and I'm sorry if we didn't do this. Don't worry, this can be changed and back dated to when you took over. A new bill will then be issued at the Economy 7 prices. You'll need to contact us with up to date meter readings. If you phone the number on the bill, this can be done whilst you're on the line. I don't have the access to change your tariff but if you've any questions after this please let me know.

    Hope this helps Queenscroft.

    Hi malc,

Thanks very much for the response and everyone else's response.

I called EON last night and they told me they can not re issue a bill because it's just something they don't do. I thought that wasn't right because everyone can re issue a bill. I was on the phone explaining my situation and all he told me was he couldn't do anything because "they didn't finalise a quote" with me while I was on the telephone giving them my meter reading. I didn't even know I had to finalise a quote, all I was on the phone for was to give my meter reading and I actually asked what my night time rate and my day time rate of charge would be.

In the end all he said he would do is knock 15 pounds off my bill for bad customer service. But that's still leave me with a bill close at £58 from the original £73.

I'm not the best at arguing like my mum could probably do so don't know what to say half the time

I think maybe you should have asked to speak to another advisor who knew what they were talking about.

From the things you say he said, It sounds like he had no idea about anything and was just talking gibberish!

Sorry Queenscroft, that really is poor advice you've been given. I'll sort this for you.

As you're changing supplier, I suspect billing has now been temporarily suspended until the switch completes. This is probably what the advisor meant although expressed very badly. If you drop an email with your details to the address in my Profile, I'll be happy to take a look.

Thank you Malc that would be most helpful.

Funny thing happened. Had an email the other night from Scottish Power telling me that I have cancelled my contract with them after me only signing up with them about 3 weeks ago. I never even cancelled this, so not sure what has happened.

So I got onto EON since they will be providing me energy until the switch (for the second time) which apparently takes 3 weeks right? So yeah I got onto EON to make sure they definately change me onto Economy 7 tariff for the time being until I get changed over to scottish power. So when I get another bill from them it should be at the economy 7 tariff.

    I did get the guys name I was speaking to;

Not sure if I'm allowed to post EONS employee names but if not i will take it down. He told me he was the furthest person I can talk to regarding this issue.
Ill drop you a message now :)
  • I'm just thinking, can I message you as im just a "Newbie"?
  • Hi,

don't think you should have given the E.ON fella's name and details.

Are you sure you still want to switch?

As you are getting things sorted with E.ON, have you compared prices etc with SP?

    Hi Queenscroft

As a company rep, MSE don't allow us to use Private Messaging but if you drop an email to the address in my Profile, I'll pick it up straightaway.

Not sure why your switch would've been cancelled. As a new customer having received just the one bill, we wouldn't have objected to you moving. You're right, switches now take between two and half and three weeks. Whilst you sort this, it's good you've gone on to Economy 7 prices as it looks as though these are better suited to your circumstances.

I don't know Hugh personally but probably best to delete his details as this is a public forum. Not sure if he would want his name out there. Thanks.

Hope this helps and look forward to your email.
