Am I paying too much for my electricity?

Hi
Well I've not yet paid an electricity, ever.
Just moved out from parents into my own flat which is electric only, no gas.
I have received my first bill from EON today in the post, although I am switching to Scottish power which I have already done because they looked like they could do me the best deal. My mum said I was stupid for choosing them though and should have consulted her before doing this. Anyway.. Moving onto this bill I have to hand from EON I have just recoeved getting home from work
It's £73 total, says I have used normal 447 kilowatt hours at 14.09p each and it says I have a standing charge of 27 days at 24.78 per day.
I question this firstly, because I am out of my flat from 6am to 6pm every week day. No lights are on and I never leave hot water on. If I want a shower I just press the boost button on my economy 7 meter and within an hour it heats up for me to have a shower. Obviously I cook and play my ps4 when I get home but only from about 8pm to 11pm. I was sure I was being gentle with energy bill so I could save a little but seams I was wrong. Weekends still are not much different, never leave a light on etc. Tbh I would prefer to use more hot water, I have just been washing my hands and washing dishes with cold water and soap for the time being planning to use hot water again when I have a good bit in my bank to do so but now if I do I'll probably end up with it going over £100 or something
And point 2 being, my next door neighbour said his bill comes to £85 per month. But he said his bill is only this high because he is retired and stays in his flat all day with his wife and the heating, lights and TV is always on.
Also just to note, I was told my heaters only come on at night time because it's worked of this economy 7 meter I have used for cheaper rates in the night
Any advice would be helpful
Thanks

Hi,
did you check the readings, is it an estimated account?
What was your low/night usage?
Are readings transposed?0 -
Yeah I got a ready. But the bills states it's from the 20th feb (when I moved in) up until 18th march (just last week).
I don't know what an estimated account is. When I moved in, EON was the energy provider already. I have no details on EON at all, apart from my first months bill I owe them until it switches to Scottish power.
I don't know what usage it's at but I do understand that nighttime electric is cheaper than daytime.
I'm not to sure what you mean by the last bit either.
Sorry if I am not much help. Probably not helping myself for you to help me further. In just not familiar with these terms.0 -
Can I insert a picture? I will show you my meter reading and my bill0
-
Hi,
an estimated account is just a guess, it is not based on actual readings.
Can you read your meter?
An E7 meter has two readings, normal/day and low/night.
Usage is the number of units used, day/night.
Transposed is where the day/night readings are the wrong way round, night/day, which can affect your bill.0 -
You can't post pictures as a new user, but if you want to put the link up without the http etc, someone can do it for you. You'll need photo bucket or similar. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Okay I have some info I think
When I moved in my meter reading was this
Low - 70389
Normal - 02212
Now I look at my EON bills it states
Previous
70389
02212
Present
70769
02279
The rate is normal on both figures
On the figure low column I used 380 kWh
On the normal column I used 67 kWh
Does this help a little?0 -
When I look at electricity bill on internet, sometimes it says a nighttime rate should be around 5pence, but maybe EON are charging me 14.09pence for nighttime and day time.0

Hi,
it will say on your bill if it is estimated or actual, if estimated, take a reading and compare.
It may be that EON are adding low and normal together to bill you.
Do you have storage heaters?0 -
Welcome to the forum.
I doesn't seem to me that you have an Economy 7 tariff. If you did you would be charged for 447kWh normal @14.09/kWh and then xxxkWh on off-peak rates.
So it seems you are paying for everything at the single rate.
What is probably happening is E-on are one of the companies that will allow you to have a 'normal' single rate tariff with an Economy 7 meter. How they achieve this is by adding the peak and off-peak consumption together and treating it as a single total. e.g. as an example your 447kWh could have been made up of, say, 300kWh on the 17 hours peak supply and 147kWh on off-peak.
You should be aware that Scottish Power do not have the facility to add the two totals - so if you have an Economy 7 meter you will have an Economy 7 tariff - so your bill will be off-peak consumption in kWh and Peak consumption in kWh plus the daily standing charge.
I would add that a consumption of 447kWh in 27 days covering Feb/March is low consumption.
Edit.
Posts crossed, 380 + 67 is indeed 447kWh so Eon have you on a single rate tariff as mused above. The previous occupant must have requested this as presumably they didn't use the storage heating.0 -
OP there is nothing to stop you changing it back to a normal eco 7 billing as it looks to be a better bet for you if you continue like this. To lower your bills approx 20% go for a one year fixed deal on direct debit0
