Giving up the cigs is so final.
no, it isnt!
i have REAL problems with the finished "forever" thing,
thats why the motto works so well... its always one day at a time
even now i still cant think about never smoking again, but i can tell you i wont smoke today... and probably wont tomorrow0 -
I gave up for the 4th and final time 6 months ago next week and it is currently, the most challenging and hardest thing I have done.
I was smoking about 20 a day for over half of my life and decided when I hit 30 that it was all change. Now all I have to do it lose some weight so that I can get married in 2010 and actually be able to look at myself in some pictures.
I wish you loads of luck

Giving up the cigs is so final. I can't wait but it is a scary proposition....
You may not think so but you will eventually go through a whole day without even thinking about smoking.
It's crept up on me and it's a great feeling when you realise you can

I want it to be final to be honest. I hate smoking .......
It stinks,
It hurts my lungs literally,
It rips my budget to bits,
It makes my husband delousanal (sp.) he won't buy me a bunch of £2.99 flowers because they will die, but he's happy to spend £5 on a pack of cigs that will die within 12 hours!!!!!!!!!!! The flowers will last for 2 weeks on average.
I've told him to buy me a bunch of flowers every monday until further notice - GOD HELP HIM IF HE SAYS NO!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Hey, well done Peardrops, what's the 12 week programme?
I'm one of these people who love smoking, and will never give up! I enjoy every cigarette I have, I don't smoke during the day and it doesn't bother me, and I don't smoke too much, but I honestly have never thought of giving up. Of course I know the health issues, but it something I enjoy and until it's illegal I won't stop - for no other reason than I really do enjoy every cigarette I have!0 -
The 12 week programme is funded by the government through your GP surgery. Its free and you get ONE aid to help you whether that's patches, inhalator etc you can have a prescription for one of these aids for 12 weeks.
You have your breath tested after the first week and then every 2 weeks for Carbon Monoxide. This isn't present in the patches etc so they know if you have been cheating. You are booted off if you levels don't improve.0 -
Good Luck ... I start mine on Thursday and look forward to saving £75/week. Which is £300/month or £3600 a year. GOD! All gone up in smoke over the last 20 years ... a staggering £72,000.:wave:0

Best of luck peardrops! :T
I gave up cold turkey years ago and although the first few months were quite hairy, I've never looked back. I breathe better, I feel better, my flat and clothes smell decent and my pocket is fuller.
There's nothing good to be said about smoking.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
One bit of advice, from experience when I tried cold turkey three months ago.
Day 5, which will be friday night for you, is the worst ... that's when the body starts having the physical withdrawals. Make sure you have a night out planned, go for it, don't sit in on your own, it is a nightmare.
I hit that night then, sat greeting in my lap. Phoned a pal who has stopped for over a year and he told me to nip over to the pub, and grab a Hamlet to take the edge off. So, I did ... and have been smoking 15 Hamlets a day since.
The moral of the story ... be prepared, very prepared and I'm sure you will overcome it.
Best of Luck.:wave:0
