Do consider sugru though https://sugru.com - this is pretty much what it does best.

Actually they do, but again I am asking for people's advice on buying other manufactures products, as apple's are awful

Having just read through this thread I have to wonder what it is that you do to them.

I've had iPhones, pads, macbooks etc. and all still have the original charging cables.

I have to agree. got 3 cables with, 1 with each iphone 5 and 1 with an ipad mini. wife and i both got iphone 6 recently and we've left the cables in the boxes as the current ones are fine.

The "care" i use when using them, as mentioned by another poster, is when removing from the phone i pull the plastic connector, and i dont wrap the cables up...

Simply trying to charge the phone or iPad, I got an old iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 with the old connectors I've had for years and had no problems. The cables are not abused, they are not pulled out of the connector by the cable. They have just failed.

And I have The Amazon cable and it works perfectly for now.

It sounds like you have some rotten luck. As others have posted, I have all my original lightning cables and they all work fine.

I've had the same since switching to lightening cables.

I have my 30 pin connector from my iPad 1 and it still works perfectly.

I have a plug next to my bed. In it sits my iPhone and iPad charger. They're never moved from there. When I get into bed I pick up the cable and plug my phone in. Then set it down. When I get up I unplug the phone and the cable sites until the next night when I again plug my phone in.

Yet since getting an iPhone 5 I've gone through about 10 lightening cables. Whilst the 30 pin which is in exactly the same place and had exactly the same routine works fine.

I've tried genuine Apple. Belkin. Cheapo £ ones. Amazon ones. They all fail after a few months.

I treat my cables worse than that even and they're all fine!

Luck of the draw isn't it.

Mine sit there 24/7 and as I said of a night my phone is plugged in. My iPad about once every three days. And still they break.
