Great Bread!

This is great, but how much yeast is an "envelope"?
I would think that it's the easy blend dry yeast you use for breadmaking (without all the fuss of activating the yeast) You buy a box and it has individual sachets inside. So one sachet.
And you should be able to skip the foaming bit with the yeast.:D
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -
You'd need to halve the quantities because six cups are too much for a BM.
HTH
Thanks Squeaky - just what I need, as ever! Now I have to dig out my breadmaker, or better yet use my Kenwood!:D

I made the bread some time ago and have finally got the pics up on photobucket. (My first ever!)
Some notes:- The ones shown are cut at about 4" (10cm) and I got six rolls.
- Yes, I mean cut! I used a soup bowl to cut them out of dough which was lightly rolled out.
- You need a dish/bowl/cutter of about 6" (15cm) if you want four larger rolls from this mix. (Well filled a single roll makes a complete meal
- I used a sachet full of active yeast (2 1/2 tsp) and started it off in luke warm water as per the recipe.
- Plain Value Flour works very well.
- I have also just made a loaf using this recipe and this works well too

Fantastic Squeaky - how did they taste and did you use a breadmaker? Don't suppose you costed out the approximate cost per roll, it would be interesting to know how much yours cost as opposed to the OPs. Thanks for the tip about potato water, I must try that.0

They taste lovely. The best rolls I've ever made.
Yes, I used the BM to make the dough (putting ingredients in in the right order).
Cost? Erm... 10p for the flour, about 7p for the yeast (I'll try free real stuff from Asda next time I have some). I used cheap and cheerful oil instead of lard so at a guess 3p and a 1/2tsp each of salt and sugar.
So around 20p four 6 decent rolls or 4 really big ones.
I always keep some potato water frozen in portions in the freezer. I use cut off bottoms of milk containers for it.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Squeaky - off topic (sorry) but does potato water work in pizza base dough (you've got me wondering what else I can use it for - up till now I've only put it into stock and the occasional stew).0
-
Erm... dunno... I've never tried it.

Squeaky/Dronid - thank you, thank you, thank you! These rolls are absolutely fab. I've made two batches now and family/friends can't get enough. I am trying to be good and so have only had one so far but I can't see my self-restraint lasting very long. Might have a go with substituting one-third of the white flour with wholemeal.0
