MSE News: Sky TV customers to be hit with price hikes

Indeed. If Sky were to have kept to their traditional 'Sept slot' price rise, the majority of Sky Sports users would have/by then been aware they had lost the Champions League coverage.
Which is why I believe they have announced it now for a brought-forward June price increase.
This is also the view of analysts at Citi, according to Telegraph, who also added that “The experience of Canal+ in France suggests losing rights does not impact subscriber volumes, but does impair pricing power”

I think that Sky's rationale is to try to disassociate price increases from the loss of Champions League by increasing prices earlier and loading the bulk of the increases on to the Variety & Family Bundles.0 -
Agreed. And from Sky's point of view the beauty of a 'bundle package' model is Sky has approx 10.5m users, but of those only 5.5m subscribe to sports, meaning 5m users are paying for sports content increases they don't watch.0

So glad I kicked Sky into touch and bought a Humax box instead... haven't missed them... won't EVER be going back.;)0

I used to work for Sky in the late 90s and we always dreaded the complaints at this time of year!
Mind you the full package was about £27. I had a look at their site and it's now £75...!
Shocking. Glad I don't have it any more.0 -
My problem is that Sky Sports isn't JUST about footy -MY favourite sports are cricket, Formula 1 & both forms of rugby ....and Sky have almost monopoly coverage of these with a few exceptions...so I'm thoroughly cheesed off, having to pay extra for football which I never watch:(0

I cancelled Sky 2 years ago after my bill reached £70 a month which quite frankly is completely ridiculous for a TV subscription.
I can honestly say I haven't missed it much either!!0 -
Why should customers without Sport package have to have an increase to pay for ridiculous price Sky paid for Premiership rights?0
-
Fortunately I just downgraded to the basic pack (with HD) so won't affect me this time. I could live without Sky but they've got my proverbials in a vice really as I'm a huge F1 fan. BBC's part-time coverage isn't adequate and Sky took all the best talent (bar DC). I'm on an older deal where I get Sky Sports F1 'free' with the HD pack. If they changed it so I had to have the full Sky Sports pack I think that'd be my tipping point.0

So did I. I was on the full package with all channels with HD 7 years ago. And it when went up to £64 a mth, I cancelled. What is it now? Over a hundred?0 -
I think we cancelled 3.5 yrs ago now, losing count its getting so long.
Just turned down a 67% off deal too !0
