I've found paracetamol and Ibuprofen to be useless. I second gentle exercise. Have you been referred to a pain clinic?

Anyone else suffering with constant pain?

I've got osteoarthritis and atm its a really bad flare up.

My back, hips, neck knees and even feet ache and I can't get any relief

My back always aches but its worse than usual.
I take medication from the Doctor but still no relief from the pain.
    It's getting me down!

Any advise/support/help from anyone would be appreciated

    Thank you

My wife's GP started her on co-codamol, then Paracetamol + Ibrofen. She is now on 80mgs MST twice a day + Oramorph! It sorts the paid out and keeps her quiet!!!

i had a knee operation in 2008 and have had permanent pain in my leg ever since. been to pain clinic and tried all they had to offer and was finally told that i was one of 10% of the population who had permanent pain after an op and basically had to put up with it. i have had all sorts of painkillers and not much helps. so have had to learn to put up with it. also i look fit and people often comment on i look well. they don't know how i wake up in night in constant pain. i have got to get on with life or else i would never go outside. i have just had a week away were i did a fair bit of walking and every evening i was resting up. i will have to take it easy for a couple of days to get over it. if i gave into pain i wouldn't have a life at all

I've had one GP sit there and tell me that because my MRI scan is normal (for me) there can't possibly be any pain and I'm just imagining it. I was then offered talking therapy.

    I've not seen her since!

Maybe she had a point. Some pain is psychosomatic.

My wife was told to carry on with the pain killers and do as much exercise as she can cope with - long daily walks, swimming etc.
In fact she realises that the GP was right and the strenuous exercise does help and so does talking therapy.

What I have is hugely misunderstood. I've had GPs tell me to drink more water, I've had GPs tell me to just take paracetamol. I've got part of my brain missing...

I really identitfy with you. I find doctors so annoying - that's when you can get an appointment, and then if you can get some kind of continuity with the same doctor!

I went a while back and as soonas I mentioned that I was sick of being in pain all the time and that it's so depressing as I have to help my dad and I'm in a worse state than him in terms of pain.

Well as soon as the doctor heard the word 'depressing' he couldn't offer me anti depressants quick enough. I said that I didn't want them and that I just want the pain to go. I said I know that pain can feel worse when you're depressed but that I felt it was more a case of me being 'depressed because I'm in pain', not 'in pain because I'm depressed'.

I also said that I didn't want antidepressants as that is just covering and masking the main pain problems. I said that as soon as you get a fibromyalgia diagnosis then every sodden pain gets put down to that. I explained that on two occassions I was told it's the fibro when I pushed for an x ray, only to find out that whilst it may well be a case of fibro it was also osteoarthritis! he gave me ibobrufen gel!

what the hell is the point!?

Having read that, could I ask what are you expecting your GP to do then?

We all (most of us) have difficulty in seeing a GP - fact, the majority never see the same GP twice - fact.
That is what it is. I don't like it, my wife doesn't either, but you have no other choice.
We don't bother to see the GP now (not since the last visit when we couldn't understand a damn word he was saying.)

We have reverted back to the old remedies that our mothers and grandmothers used - all pre NHS days.

At least we are finding some relief and the local pharmacy is fantastic in getting the medication/herbs/oils etc for us.

Can agree with you, i have MS and OA, and gp's but everything down to either, rather than spend time and money getting to the root of the problem, i have to try and find a new GP because the one i have in October was supposed to make two referrals, she didn't one i have to beg for in dec, and the other still hasn't been made, i worry that if i move any letters or info from consultants won't come back to the right gp, i couldn't trust the office staff to do the right thing, i moved home, told them, made sure they knew where they should send new prescriptions, and still they sent them to the wrong one, so that's telling them face to face and changing my details online, they still screwed up

They are as human as you and I are. We all make mistakes - some trivial - some that cause death unfortunately. It would be an ideal world if everything went smoothly - but rather boring don't you think?
