When I look at a competition I decide first if I want to enter/win that prize if I don't then I click the 'Thanks' button so I know I've already reviewed the post & also to thank the OP for sharing the competition.
If I decide to enter I will also click the 'Thanks' button to thank the OP but also (& quite importantly) as an indication to me that I've already entered. Some competitions will void your entries if you enter more than once.
'Check your thanks' or 'already posted here' after someone has noticed it is a duplicate of a comp already posted is to alert members to make sure they haven't already entered - so a link to the original post of the competiton would be included so it can be clicked & you can then 'check your thanks' button. - If thanks button is gone it means you've already entered (or decided you didn't want to) & if the Thanks button is still showing on the original post then it means you can then enter the comp without duplicating your entry & getting thrown out of the comp!

if you need a hand with how the search works then try this thread by divadee; she also requested on that thread that any duplicates which are found are notified to her by private message (pm) so that she can merge them together to make one thread & keep the board tidy
<!--[endif]-->
Please don't let it put you off sharing your competitions, a search of the forum can help to avoid duplicates, but even the prolific comp posters on here duplicate occasionally
I'll send a merge request now
Sad because you don't know what to do? :sad: Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0 -
Brilliant thanks velvet glove - I had thought the "check thanks" was people being precious about duplicate postings as opposed to being able to check if you had already entered.0

, i think it was the character from shrek...or have i got the wrong mse'er?
