  • Hi all,

Just found this forum, and may I add its been a long year !! My ds got 2nd choice today, Campbell College, anyone else going here ? Thanks :D
  • Just heard of a friends daughter getting into BRA with an AQE score of 96 (and no SC), so BRA's cut off must be lower this year.

from what I am hearing it was over 95 not 100% are you for Ringing them on Tuesday?

I have heard of two 94's getting in but they either have siblings or are oldest child and then another couple like mine who didn't get in without being siblings/oldest child. This makes it even more gutting if it is true. DH will be on the phone to them on Tue as I am at work.

I really think to make the whole thing fair in situations like this if they have the same score then they should take all with that score or none with that score as you are effectively telling a child they aren't good enough for a grammar place because either their oldest sibling goes elsewhere or they aren't the oldest.

This is indeed the case in all schools by the looks of it. My friend who works in the office of a grammar school explained yesterday that they use scores for the 1st 169 places. The remaining 17 places are filled by criteria and not the scores!!! These are siblings and special circumstances I assume. As you say it makes the system even more unfair.
We did get our 1st choice but I know all 3 of our local grammar schools have increased their scores this year.

    Congratulations to all.
Just re-posting below to clarify the SC situation (especially bit in bold).May be helpful to some to understand that those who got in with SC got score uplifted on Merit

    The way SC work is
    1. School considers evidence submitted by Parents and decide if indeed the SC could have had a detrimental effect on score.
    2. If it is deemed that yes SC do apply, then and only then do they look at academical evidence (usually provided by primary school)
    3. Grammar school will then decide if score should be uplifted -it may be the case that SC are accepted but score is not uplifted, as the academical evidence does not support this
    4. If SC accepted and academical evidence suggests that child did under-perform, then score is uplifted to reflect what they probably would have got had SC not got in the way
    5. Score uplifted - now the new score becomes the official AQE result.
The important bit to remember is that Yes in some cases SC are accepted but score wont be changed -it will only be uplifted if the academic evidence is there to support it.
  • Thanks for that Rolo a lot of mystery surrounding SC. I have heard the maximum points can be added on is 3 your post dispels that theory if it is upgraded to what would have been expected am I correct ?
