That sounds good! Do you put away every £2 coin that comes into your possession? I would love to just comfortably have the money and go get it altogether...that's 2 big school uniforms this year ...

I have been trying to understand the relationship between raw scores and the standardised score given by AQE and Maria75 is correct that you can't simply add the two highest raw scores and add or subtract a value based on your child's birth month. As far as I can deduce the standardisation process works as follows:
1. You calculate the average score for paper 1, just using the results from pupils who are the same age as your child rounded to the nearest month
2. You calculate the standard deviation for paper 1, just using the results from pupils who are the same age as your child rounded to the nearest month.
3. You calculate the Z score for your child's result in paper 1, using the mean and SD from 1. and 2.
4. You standardise this to a normal distribution with a mean of 100 and SD of 15.
This is the standardised score for paper 1.
Repeat this for papers 2 and 3, and note that as the papers are set on different dates, 2 or 3 weeks apart, the students you are comparing against could change.
Once you have the 3 standardised results for all 3 papers, find the average of the top 2.
This will be you AQE score.
(Take this next bit with a pinch of salt.)
It does seem that adding your top two raw scores together and adding or subtracting 1...3 marks gives the Standardised Score, but I would suggest that this is just a side effect of the average of the sum of the top two papers being about 100 and the SD being about 13.
Hope this helps.0 -
The Z score is the amount you score above or below the average, expressed in Standard Deviations.
So if the average is 50 for paper 1 and the standard deviation is 10 and your score is 60 then the Z score is +1.
If the average is 48 and the standard deviation is 4 and your score is 56, then the Z score is +2.
Hope that helps.0 -
My son's raw scores were
Paper 1. 57

Observation - the raw scores being posted seems to be mainly for the kids who have got high AQE results - really well done to all of them but for comparison might be good to have some middle of the road raw scores (like ours which are awaited) - if you want to pm myself I will post them anonymously for you so that we have a wider range to compare.0

Hi, first time posting but I have been following the thread.
AQE score - 92 (Jan birthday)
Raw scores- 40,46,430 -
Personally didn't get my ds raw scores didn't feel the need he ft what he got as arrant of in the day nerves etc whatever going over it doesn't change anything
Ability is there just didn't get his ideal score on the day
I feel all of this raw score analysis on allows those that have done very well to show off for want of a better description . Brilliant that those kids done well . But it's over now and time to move on with the next chapter rather than talking about it forever
I agree with bobs though some people may not want their scores out there0
