My sister missed out on a bus pass by 3 metres!!!! They take it from the bus stop and not the house, kind of silly like. I actually wasn't aware that you have to be turned down by the closest to qualify for one, that's really good to know. At one point my dd was considering victoria college, but with BRA being closer she would have had to have been turned down by it then...is that correct? She has decided upon BRA in the end for definite but we probably would have found out the hard way re the bus pass had she gone with Victoria college!!!
Regarding the marks in the 80's, Asolutely still apply!!!!! Every year people with marks in the 80's don't bother then find out they would have gotten in and kick themselves. A score in the 80's is a good score!! Remember, unlike the 11+, the average of 100 is from the kids that sit the test only, not all of n.i, so kids that were deemed able, making it a good score :j
Yes re bus pass if you bypass a school by choice you don't get it but if you refused a place ruling out that as your nearest then you qualify for travel
Re score in the 80 my ds and myself were seeing that as a bad score but i suppose if grammars have taken it its shows child is able it's just unfortunate that although he has passed for grammar education my ds prob won't get a place because of limited intake into the school
I'm still going to try though this but I'm worried about
I'll have to put the school I know he won't get into as first choice to be refused so my second choice I know takes down to an 80 last year to get travel but will this affect him when they do the rounds of selection
Does anyone know0 -
Hi Fishing Mad,
I'm going to phone the school tomorrow to get some guidance. I've heard that they turned away 108 last year which is making me nervous!
Best of luck to you, it seems crazy that we're second guessing such good scores but this system is just so unpredictable!!! X0 -
Yes rainbowmac, they are not allowed to discriminate on order of choice. If they're 2nd choice they have to be treated as first if the first turns them down. My dd is putting bra then victoria college, if 104 doesn't get her into bra then victoria have to treat her as the 1st choice and go down the scores with her included.
End of May is way to long to wait0 -

Thank you I know it's too long it would be such a better system if you put your choice in when you did the rest and the score came out with the school you got
Long time til may x0 -

Well yes, but for that to happen, the DENI would have to actually be supportive of the transfer test system, rather than obstructive...0 -

Hi,
Just encourage everyone to please check all the prospectus' before making your choices. Ballyclare highs def says it takes no one with a score of less than 94. Also Ballyclare secondary only consider you if it's your first or second choice which is difficult if you want to try for two grammars.0 -

Wouldn't have thought that!! Ballyclare High is an amazing school. I transferred there in 2nd year from Belfast High. I didn't realise some secondary's have to be second choice though!! I'll have to check the model school for girls then....though dd1 goes so that should help our case if grammar don't take her...... But then they should with 104 right?0 -

I think Ballyclare secondary is one of the few secondary schools that is oversubcribed. It's a great school too but I think I'm sure of getting our 1st choice of grammar school with 103.0
