Thanks for that information. Will definitely put grammar school as 1st preference then. Just felt it maybe a waste of time and perhaps the primary school principal will steer us away from grammar schools. We are in Antrim area.

You could still put grammars 1st, 2nd etc, and then list Secondary Schools and just let this system sort it out. The only thing is, if you really want a certain Secondary School and it is usually oversubscribed you may miss out on it if you do not put it 1st on your transfer form because most Secondary Schools take in those who put them 1st on the transfer form before those who have listed them 2nd or lower. So just be aware of that. It's important to consider the entrance criteria for the schools you are interested in.

There are some grammars every year that accept score in the 80s and lower but most of them are outside of the Belfast area.

What county or area are you in ?

There is only a very few schools, secondary or grammar, who care about what order they are on the transfer form. The whole selection process is repeated in every round, so kids that got in in the first round could be bumped in the second and on, until the options run out in the fifth round. Check the admission criteria for secondary schools in particular, eldest children, living close to the school and being in a feeder school all may be important. In Grammar application don't gauge anything by last years scores. Don't worry, my dd got 88 last year and she is loving secondary school it is streamed and she has a lovely wee bunch kids in her class. :D Have a movie night or some fun and don't get upset like (I'm embarrassed to say) I did!!.

Thank you emanlu for that phone number was able to get the results for my son, he managed 113 in his AQE, he worked very hard for the 6 months leading up to it, so it was well deserved, Thanks to all for the advice, glad I only had to go through this process once!
