Hi Miamam
I have a lot of experience doing the CEA papers with two kids (daughter last year & son this year). I think they are fantastic for spring/summer practice but I feel that the English is much more difficult than the past papers - hence two weeks ago (having just bought a new pack) I ditched them for the reasons you have outlined (son's score & confidence had dropped) - I see no reason to give child harder comprehension exercises than necessary at this late stage - better to focus on improving their weaknesses. Also to be getting good scores in past papers & then doing badly in CEA tests is very demoralising for the child. I think you should explain this to your child about those CEA papers so she doesn't worry (I had to do this).
My nephew's primary have a policy of giving easier tests coming up to the real thing in order to boost confidence (eg in last week I will give one or two past papers he has done before & got a good score in to ensure he does well).
Don't know if it's wise to do BT papers in a timed manner as I think they are only 45 minutes which might be confusing. It might be useful to pick out the things child needs to polish up on.
Easons sell a pack of three AQE practise papers which are similar to the real thing & I thought quite good.
This is my second year in a row doing the tutoring myself & I think I am reaching my limit!!!! Argh!!!!! This forum has been such a support. Thanks to all.
All the best
Thank you so much for your reply, I'm so glad that someone else has had the same experience with the CEA papers. I'm going to stop using them for timed exam practice but use the ones I have left as revision material which we can go through together. I think confidence is key at this stage and I really don't want to damage hers when she's been doing so well!
I will probably use the BT ones for revision too and buy those aqe papers from Easons to use for tests.
I'm so glad I found this forum! The support and advice has been invaluable. Not long to go now! Xx0 -

Papers 15 to 19 are more difficult BOBS but if you go through them sitting next to them with no time pressure, they won't be freaked out by them but they'll get good experience tackling harder questions.
My DD likes when I photocopy the test so we both have one each:) x0 -
Hi All,
Which CEA tests are you referring to? The ones from thetransfertest.com? Or from somewhere else?
Thanks.0 -
Well I'm happy gave ds a maths paper gl easons one and woo hoo 80% I'm delighted and his response was .... " I told you I would get 80s bearer the time " omg
But a really good parent teacher meeting yesterday saying he has loads of capability etc so a pretty good 48 hours - that gave me a wee boost too
Hope everyone else well0 -

Whatever the results I'm happy now as ds realises he can do it if he wants and he enjoys the learning now . That's all I want x0

Hi All,

Thanks.
The CEA papers are the books you get in Rasons. They come in sets of 4 with different coloured front covers? I think you can buy them online too.
Hope this helps.x0
