B&Q checkouts. (Just a quick vent)

This afternoon I was in B&Q Croydon to buy a few bits and pieces, and being a Friday afternoon, it was fairly busy in there.
How many checkout did they have open?

Of the 4 tills that require a checkout assistant, one was open and they also have 4 self service points but only two were working.

After queuing up and waiting for 10 minutes with no apparent movement of the queue, I gave up, handing my intended purchases to a passing member of staff.
I made sure that they knew why I was leaving and that I was on my way to a different store (Homebase), one that usually treats their customers a bit better.

We hear about high street shops closing down all the time and this often gets blamed on people buying through the internet, but as long as some shops don't appear to care about their potential customers, the number of closures will only increase.

    Chicken and Egg.....

They now rely on self service and so when it breaks they do not have enough staff.

B&Q have got a lot lighter on the staff front over recent years. I used to pick up everything there but now its far more convenient to pick the small bits up from screwfix, and the larger stuff from Wickes.
  • Have you sent them a communication to let them know? I'd doubt any store would want to lose custom from people having to wait too long. Of course it may have been circumstances beyond their control but there's little reason why even the store manager can't step on the tills in time of need.
  • That's usually worse around our area, only ever 1 till open and no self-service points....
I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.
  • Both stores always seem to have a large number of managers (suits) walking around with clipboards/hand-helds, looking at stock and playing shops.....

  • That's why people call it Q&Q

The B&Q by the Ikea towers? I work near there and whenever I needed to go in B&Q there is always a queue and usually only 1 till working.

I used to work in Do It All about 20 years ago and we'd always put more tills on to clear the queues as it can look really bad, especially with people with big trolleys of stuff in the queue.

Another shop/store that doesn't realise that when you have customers queuing you need to do everything you can to snatch those £££ from their hands.

I would have asked to see the manager there & then.
So he could see the problem & resolve it there & then ....hopefully.
I have done this several times in B&Q & in other stores.
I have also dumped stuff on the counter & walked out.......
Had my own shop for 32 years & if I ever looked likehaving a queue I opened another till & all the staff worked faster.......
