Depends how long it was wet for...the insulation guys were here on an afternoon, the dripping onto the newly tiled bathroom floor was found at 6am the next morning... so a good 14 hrs.

Plumber was right at the end of the bathroom re-fit/tiling and after ascertaining the culprit, I was offered a new ceiling...but the possible damage to new everything it might cause in replacing it, decided against it. A cheque, some gloss paint to cover the discolouration and a dried out bow later and I left it at that. No-one else notices it :)

Glad the appliance has returned from the light.. hope the water damage isn't too bad!

  • Borrow a dehumidifier and run to completely dry it out.

This happened when our tank sprang a leak and it dried out in 24 hours and saved the plasterboard.

then there's stain resistant paint you can get at b and q which stops the stain coming through.

Its dried pretty well already, so i'm confident that'll be fine. Good call on the stain resistant paint, and i'm decorating the living room in 2 weeks so i'll tackle the kitchen ceiling sat the same time.

I'm with you DFOD, tea is like the cure for all evils!!

I'm totally shattered with the happening of the last 24hrs, which has included lots of work work, and hospital visiting too. Hoping for an easyish weekend!

In Santander news i managed to sort online banking out and changed 3 DD, but was too late for council tax and first utility as payments have been readied. So i'll have to sort them next Thursday/Friday. I've activated both credit cards my first purchase and removed tesco cards from wallets and purse. So very impressed with them so far.

  • Hi SJ

And I think I have bad days!!

glad it is all resolved. Any idea why fridge had a pink fit tinged with ginger??

I have also used the stain resistant paint and it works well.

Must say with your eventful day I do admire how you have still kept on top of small finances!

I kinda 'Tilly tidy' in that, from a CS, some years ago I aquired for 20p a 'centuary saver' It consists on 3 tubes - one fits 20ps - one fits 50ps and one fits £1s. The back of it is marked with the amounts as you put more monies in. when full it contains £100! i use it thus:

Each week I take out £15 (£5 for food and cleaning - there is only me + £10 for entertainment - I usually meet some friends for a cheap meal and a drink once a week). This happens on a Friday. So Friday morning i empty my purse and put 20ps/50ps/£1s into the centuary saver. All other coins go either into a small pot in the kitchen drawer or into the 'parking change' purse in the car. Today I managed to put £1.20 into the CC and 6p into the pot!

I work on the Macawber Principle :rotfl:

The CC provides spends for Summer Hols and again for Xmas! Pennies really do make pounds so am going to take inspiration from you and get all accounts on line and shift the pennies around - if not everyday like you - then at least on a Friday :j

Lyn - thanks for popping in. In a similar fashion I've been amazed at how much build up in the small change jar. In 5 months I've OP'd £25 in 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p's. And now my new Tilly tidy technique is probably gonna get another £20 per month.

which leads me onto to starting that I've tidied £1 this morning. Payday is Tuesday and our account looks good. With money left I was going to split between mortgage and long term savings, but I'll now use that for the plumbing repairs. The fridge continues to be a concern however as it fluctuates between working and not. At present it's keeping cold enough but can't see it lasting. So hoping to get through a week and see what bank holiday offers we can take advantage of next weekend.

My plan for the day is to do very little (except bikes with boys and dog walks between the rain), slob out and eat!! Oh and defo grab a snooze between roughing!

Sorry to hear about the fridge and the leak! Not good. Hopefully it gets sorted quickly and cheaply and nothing else nasty comes your way for a long time.

I might have a snooze later as well lol.

  • debtfree - that is good to hear! no one else I have spoken to seems to have heard of/seen CC savers! I think they would make a brilliant present for kids - to teach them to save for stuff - it is quite a thrill to watch the money mount up!
    thanks all
