Great figures SJ!
I really must do some concerted decluttering - I threw away a huge amount when I moved, but that was 4 years ago now and it's creeping up on me. In my head I still think I've not got much stuff, but not sure others would see it that way!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!5 -
Awesome progress Jimmy!
I'm with you on the decluttering. We don't remove an item or more a day, we tackle it in fits and starts - wardrobes one weekend, bookshelves the following week, kitchen the following week, etc. We're making massive progress, and feeling all the better for it!
I never realised how great it would feel to genuinely like/want/love all the items in our home. Only after removing clutter have I come to realise I truly resented having that junk lingering in our home!
We're not quite done yet, but much like working towards financial independence, you get to reap some of the benefits way before you meet the final target7 -
We've decluttered that much over the last couple of years I reckon we could had our own shop. It feels good though to let it all go. I'm on my 3rd declutter (started the 1st about this time last year), so far not regretted getting rid of any of the just in case stuff.

Just jumping in to agree with how cathartic decluttering is ... and how you suddenly realise how much carp is coming into your house!
The funniest thing I've had so far is someone asking where all the kids toys are ... they have a toy box full and a craft cupboard, the look on the persons face was hilarious! (plus I'm enjoying not treading on lego!).

Equally loving the decluttering, I'm a mix of fits and starts and items every day! I'm going to tackle the airing cupboard today!DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

Thanks everyone. It seems that MFW like minded people are also decluttering minded people. In terms of toys were not so bad now with the eldest 2, but the 4yr old seems to have a lot of bitty stuff of her own, and then plays loads with stuff of the boys that has been too good to get rid of. So I think i've got a bit longer to go before I can reduce DD's stuff.
Its been a slow week overall. They say it comes in 3's and I've had 3 major work things crop up all on Monday night and into Tuesday morning. Tuesday was a terrible day with lots of waiting for people to 'call back', then typically they all call at the same time and you miss all but one of them...and repeat...grrr! Anyway thankfully normality seemed to have resumed by Weds lunch, except some mental weariness for me. Day off today doing very little was much required and i can get back on track tomorrow.
There's rumours in our town that schools may shut early for an extended Easter. I suspect my job role will also have some massive "dont come in" implications and I'm expecting that to come in sometime next week. Hopefully it will coincide with the schools and we can decamp to the caravan to do some home schooling from there! If schools shut and work doesn't I have no idea how we'll organise things. Self isolation watching sport sounds lovely, but not if all the sport gets cancelled as well...
TT's have meandered us along but definitely in the mid month slump.MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......5 -
Oh forgot to mention. As part of the declutter I've sold a few things on ebay. A couple of kids games bundles, 2 golf polo's (I had 4, which I felt was overkill for customary 1 round per year) and a kids top (not quite finished yet but has a bid). We've probably got enough for a meal out and a few drinksMFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......4

I have just repeated your reference to fourgolf polo shirts for the customary one round a year to DH - it elicited a nervous laugh and a bit of a look... I wonder how many he has lurking?. Great progress btwSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
