I don't have savings as I've had loads of house expenditure so can't earn lots of interest. I think I have the other banks covered (hsbc save together, Santander, Halifax) but am I missing any. Thanks.

    Lipppy and our corner,
I'm not so sure there's much more any of us can do bank wise. My next trick is to start cycling our savings into the 6% regular savers, but keeping the few tsb accounts fully topped up. It won't make us much extra per year but will certainly give me some smug satisfaction!

Overall I'm determined to get our mortgage as low as possibly before the inevitable interest rate rises, so that we can benefit from a smaller amount being charged interests, and hopefully be in a position to capitalise on better savings. I do feel that we have been in a unique situation over the last few years and have endevearoured to take advantage!

I'm using a m and s regular saver to start my savings again in case of another emergency, and paying what I can off the mortgage.

Cycle everyday here :) Vary the route/distance depending on weather, school hols etc

Was facing a £93 bill yesterday  but in the end was only £30 as I supplied some of the parts :) Daily commuting on the bike does wear it out especially over the winter months.

Certainly keeps you fit using otherwise dead-time.

    Cheers

PS not sure it works our cheaper for me as at the times I travel the train is always free :D

I will look into geolotto! I can spare 1 min a day lol.

How goes the attacking the banks plan? I need a new 1 now but can't think what. I worked out I'm earning around £50pm net from interest/rewards/cashback etc. My aim is to increase by another £5pm at least. No idea how to do it though.

Just opened my new electronic change jar I got for xmas. It counts the coins as they go in. A new way to motivate me to put more loose change in :)

Yup same here, a steady ~£600pa :) Hard to get it higher due to expiring deals, hassle factor etc...

    Hi all,

Very little going on this week, which is probably reflected in my few posts. The good news is that with the bank holiday payday is today :j

As its payday i did a quick reckoning up (a bit earlier than my standard 1st of each month, but spreadsheets give motivation as we all know :D), and i think our overpayments for the month will be £463. This is both good and frustrating:
    • Good as it'll take us into the £132k's and allow another brick to be coloured
    • Good as it'll drop us under £7.30 on daily interest :T
    • Frustrating as it's the first month this year that we've been under the dream target of £500 a month overpayment :(
Last night i spotted my small change jar was looking 1/3 full so i did a quick count up and i have another £5 to transfer to the mortgage (you may recall i reduced my payment limit from £10 to £5 to increase the psychological effect off more regular payments). So i've duly transferred that this morning, which is nice. this also helps me to keep going with my aim of 1 overpayment per week! Unfortunately my jar now looks rather empty, so i'll have to raid Mrs SJ's purse...

Have a great weekend everyone, and don't be tempted into spending too much ;)

Good luck with the Ebay refund!

Nothing going particularly well from my end. All this wedding business is costing an absolute fortune. £4k on credit card bills this month!!!!! We could have not bothered with a wedding and saved about 4 years on our mortgage

But then again, I am a girl and every girl dreams of a big wedding when they are younger lol. If you have the money why not. I'm only doing it once. If we end up divorced and I'm in the position to marry again its going to be a quick get married in Vegas sort of thing and a party after.

Anyway, not really a bank attack, more like a top cashback attack. I opened a new 0% on purchases credit card online and received a £30 credit to my account. Just playing the waiting game now for them to pay. I do love these cashback websites. It's such an easy way to make a little for doing nothing. It amazes me how so many people don't bother to use them. But then again it means more rewards for us savvy folks ;)

Yay for the new brick being coloured in. We will get a new brick crossed off on the 1st as well. Going to let OH do it so he feels involved :rotfl:
    Total Mortgage OP £61,000
    Outstanding Mortgage £27,971
    Emergency Fund £62,100
I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>
