Which brands do you recommend 2nd hand?0

Oh I don't know. I don't find any labels on them nor do I ask where they came from. Sorry.0

Try Ebay, we have got our last two suites off of there from firms that visit manufacturers auctions and buy cancelled orders etc. We have just got a new G Plan P grade (best quality) leather 2 seater recliner sofa, and two electric recliners. The retail cost of these would be over £5500.......we paid £2100 for the lot......
Gplan are one of the best makes you can get.......20 plus years as a mortgage adviser for Halifax (have now retired), and I have pretty much seen it all....:D0 -
I prefer leather, but as noted no point getting cheap quality.
Yes one issue is slipping around but they are easy to clean, look good.
Cloth ones may look fine in the shop but not all cushions are reversible and even if they are there may not be material on the underside. They are also prone to crease (even the quality ones).
I have no particular expertise other than the experience of seeing my parents replace a perfectly good sofa every two years, having paid a fortune for the quality. Which brings me to the final point. If you tire of sofas quickly go for the cheap ones!Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

Good advice, buy cheap from DFS / SCS and you can afford to discard.
Buy a mega expensive suite and you are stuck with it for years.
Your choice.
ps , same with carpets, styles change.0 -
Cold and hard or hot and sticky. I can't stand leather; if it was so great and comfortable mattresses would be made of it.0

We have a semi aniline leather sofa in our dining room but fabric in the lounge.
Can't bear the shiny coated leather, much prefer the natural looking leather.
We did buy a full aniline for our lounge but the upkeep and cleaning was a nightmare so we got rid.0 -
The stitching on a seam, split on our leather settee after just a few years and looked awful. It could not be repaired easily as the whole section would have to be removed, then replaced. Got a fabric one instead. Leather does not necessarily last any longer than fabric and can be expensive to repair in our experience.0
