fabric or leather sofa

I don't know which to get?
I don't have kids or pets but the odd drink spillage may be rectified by removable covers on a nice warm fabric sofa
Leather sofas I find cold in winter but I guess they age nicely and are classic and cleanable

Leather. You can always have a throw on the sofa in winter time0

Whatever you do, do not buy a cheap leather sofa or chair. I bought a couple of swivel chairs a couple of years ago and the "leather" is just peeling off of the backing. I actually measured the thickness of the Leather part and found it to be .0.15mm. It is so thin that I thought that it had been sprayed on.
You definitely get what you pay for when you buy a leather chair or sofa. I have a couple of chairs that are probably 25-30 years old and there is no sign of wear of the leather. But they were expensive at the time.
When I replace the chairs in question, I shall be paying much more and getting a much better quality leather covering.
Cheap leather does not age nicely, as I know from experience.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Cumfy fabric for a cumfy seat. Leather if you want something to look at not sit on.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Are those real leather?
I knew that happened at faux leather.0 -
I find I slide around on leather sofas, and they can feel very hot and sticky in hot weather.0

Generally prefer leather as easier to keep clean - on the same note I have always HATED carpets and curtains and always go with wood flooring (wood NOT laminate!) and wood blinds.0

I will be getting a sofa off ebay
Large 2 seater or small 3 seater
I want stylish and quality
So no dfs scs etc
I am looking at habitat and John lewis
M&s looks a bit granny
What other brands should I look for?0 -

On a side note too...I wanted engineered wood but as FTB couldn't afford so going for decent laminate. I don't mind now.
I considered blinds but I want cosey and homely.
Do you think your wood floor and wood blinds are too...woody. .and does your home feel cold (emotionally) as a result of these AND leather sofa, or have you gone for the pristine show home look0 -
I'm something of an expert actually.
I get old leather sofas off freecycle and strip the leather off to make shoes and boots. The leather is variable in quality and some use fake leather on the backs and sides and only use real leather in the places that would come into contact with your derriere.
If the panels round the back are made up from smallish panels then you know it's real leather and reasonable quality at that.
I would go for a leather sofa every time. They are easier to keep clean and age very well. Some of the sofas I've stripped are 20 years old, you would be hard pushed to find a fabric sofa lasting so long. Yes they are a bit cold in winter but unless you plan to sit on them naked it's not going to be a problem.0
