Hi all, not sure if this is the correct place for this post, so sorry if it's not.
I need a bit of help from people cleverer than me!
I'm going into hospital in a few weeks and there is no tv or wifi there (!).
I really want to keep in touch with the outside world, and possibly watch a movie or 2 whilst in there.
I've contacted my phone provider (Vodafone) who tell me that they don't do any sort of data bundle I can add on for a month to give me a load of data allowance on my phone.
I have plusnet broadband and they don't have wifi hotspots.
My daughter has a nintendo 3ds which can connect to the Cloud wifi by sky, so what I want to know whether I can then somehow connect my phone to the 3DS so I can browse on my phone via the internet on the DS.
Hopefully that makes sense!
Can anyone advise.
Thanks in advance!!

Short answer - No.
If there is no wifi of any sort then the DS will have nothing to connect to.
Get a mifi device and that should sort you out
This sort of thing is an example

When's the booking with the addiction clinic?0

Tethering would normally work by the DS using the data connection of the phone and not the other way round..
What phone do you have? why don't you add the sky wifi app to the phone..? but is there wifi access in hospital?
Do you have any kind of tablet that could be configured to use the cloud wifi by sky? some of the sky apps allow programs to be downloaded for viewing later ..
Is your phone unlocked? in which case a 3 simcard gives unlimited data for £15 a month on payg..0 -
Check with the hospital. Some have no phone / wifi areas due to sensitive equipment. Blanket hospital wide no Phone /WiFi bans seem to have all gone but threes sill some areas that have them.
In addition remember that typically hospitals have a lot of concrete and metal and wiring, you may not get a good mobile signal inside the buildings.0 -
An e-reader with plenty of books preloaded, and newspapers from the hospital shop?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Three PAYG do unlimited data bundles for £15 a month. If your phone is unlocked you could get a three sim.
AFAIK the first month includes unlimited data when you buy the sim for £1 and get a £10 top up.
The only problem is that the mobile signal may be poor and obviously you would be dependent on that if there is no wifi.0 -

So true, been visiting rels in hospital and zero mobile coverage is typical.
But 100% of UK hospitals have that TV/radio unit per patient, don't they?
If OP would care to name the 1 UK hospital that does not. I'm intrigued.0 -
You can download lots on BBC iplayer, ITV Player etc, before you go in. Plus put some films onto a memory stick.
Friends can take your laptop and update programs.
Or just watch TV on your laptop with an August DVB, about £12 on Ebay.0 -
Thanks everyone!
LOL, Ihave enough clinics without checking into an internet addiction clinic... I just don't want to come home following a week/10 days in hospital to a mountain of emails...and I want to keep in touch with the outside world, especially my DD and DH as they won't be able to visit too often.
Thanks for the advice on the DS and not being able to hook up to it...I've done some digging and seems that there would be no hotspots nearby anyway, EE seems to be the best signal, so I may get a SIM with unlimited data on it and hope it works.
And, Buglawton...you'd think they'd all have them snazzy tv things, wouldn't you......have a look at page 9 on this link, and guess which hospital I'll be in!!!

According to the nurse I spoke to, not all wards even have the communal tv!PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.
