Just for info, latest invoices states:
    Replace supplied turbo
Remove all intake pipes, clean and inspect for debris
Remove rocker cover, clean and inspect for debris
Remove all vacuum piping from turbo wastegate module, clean out and refit
Remove EGR valve and inlet stepper motor, clean and refit
    Clean out intercooler

Update: I went out literally just down the road, about three quarters of a mile, left it idling for about 1 minute. Went in to see a friend for 5 minutes, came back out and drove back.
Got out the car and the smell was bad again so I left the engine on and used a torch to see if I could see any vapour and nothing obvious.

If you can picture where the intake pipe is on the engine (Top center under the windscreen) well it's there and nothing looks odd.
God knows. I think my only option here is to carefully drive to work tomorrow and await the results of the report on the last turbo that died and see what caused it. I am now starting to become convinced the burning smell is something wrong that has a direct affect on the turbo....But I have no real clue.
Don't even know if that is possible.

    Honest answer, don't know.
They hooked up the computer, when taking out on the road, to see if it was over speeding / boosting and it all seemed ok...Is that the same thing?

For the benefit of those who do have turbo problems, you don't use an analyser to interrogate the cars own systems, they might be giving false readings and part of the fault. A real garage will connect a tested, independent pressure gauge.

Yeah the OBD or diagnostic testers will be relying on the sensors fitted to the car.
