OK advice on Turbo now fitted :-)

Sludging is eminently possible at 90k, if oil changing's been neglected or if it's been fed cheap oil. Almost inevitable, if both.OddballJamie wrote: »Pretty low then. I was expecting closer to 200k.0 -
Well I didn't, it was the garage who did it but he assures me he checked and double checked everything oil based and all was spot on0
-
Thanks Adrian, He assured me he checked all the areas where sludging is known and absolutely nothing0

Garret Turbo I believe and don't quote me but I think it's 140BHP
Garrett are one of the better brands of turbo so shouldn't be an issue with them if all is well.
If it's a 1.9TDi they normally do a 105Bhp, 115Bhp or 130Bhp but the 140Bhp model was only on the 2.0 engines.All your base are belong to us.0 -
Loud turbo whistle could be down to split air pipe or leaky vacuum hose.
My B6 A4 1.9tdi made very little turbo noise so it sounds like something isn't right."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
Seeing as the garage has checked it thoroughly over and over, I would drive it hard for a while and see what happens. If it gets worse or breaks then the garage will have to repair it, but if it stays the same, that might just be what it's like.0
-
Yeah the garage has asked me to drive it for roughly 150 - 200 miles and see if it gets worse etc.
The issue here is that I supplied the recon turbo and the garage did the fitting, cleaning etc.
Don't want a game of back and forth blaming, if it does go wrong.
Already in this thread it shows you that some people believe the whistle to be not a good sign and others say it's fine and could be normal :-(0 -
The only way we could tell if it was a whistle or a whine is by listening to it.All your base are belong to us.0

What exactly will you do if you drive this vehicle hard and in blows another turbo? You supplied the parts, the garage wont warranty it or their labour.0
-
Well that's my fear Col, so I am driving it sensibly for a few days, not revving too much between gear changes etc
If the report, for the broken turbo, comes back saying it was impact from debris that caused it then, it doesn't matter how I drive it really. If there's crap in the system, there's crap in the system.
But basically if this one blew it would be another £300 cost to me I suppose.
Got a quote today from AA for a roadside recovery policy (Already have one now) but with the warranty policy too.
£210 for the year and they give you up to £500 to help you towards repairs0
