Fixed Penalty - Cycle box at red light
UKMikey
Today I stopped in my car at a red light only to see a police officer noting my license plate then signaling to others on the other side of the junction to pull me over. When I pulled over and got out I was told that I had encroached into the cycle box immediately in font of me at the lights and that this was an offence (offence code 160).
I told them that I may have just been over by a bumpers width but with no cyclists anywhere in the area there was no possible threat or danger posed. However, they issued me with a fine of (get this) £100!! and 3 Points!!.
This would put this offence on a par with 100 mph down the motorway or speeding past a school or hospital etc. Has anyone had this done to them or successfully appealed as this is what I'm considering doing.
Any advice greatly appreciated

We here are more focused on private parking tickets. You are best seeking expert advice on police-issued penalties over on PePiPoo. Here's your link:
http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?act=SF&s=&f=5Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

You could challenge the offence in court but risk a greater fine and costs if you lose. As I understand it ( but more than happy to be corrected) it's the position of the wheels and not the body of the car that mustn't cross into the box section, same as yellow line parking restrictions.0

Its an outrage but unfortunately under rule 178 of the highway code, it appears you have committed and offence

It will be flavour of the day for coppers soon. They will be issuing FPs to motorists for this whilst every other criminal goes about their business .Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
The Highway code isn't law.0

But it says in the Highway Code there: " If your vehicle has proceeded over the first white line at the time that the signal goes red, you MUST stop at the second white line, even if your vehicle is in the marked area. "
That's because there are 2 stop lines, the meaning being if you cannot stop safely for the first one then you must stop for the 2nd one, leaving you stranded in the cycle box.
I would say they don't know the detail of these new regs. This is what the London Taxi Driver Association told us regarding getting stranded in the box but yeah Pepipoo is the best place for this.cheers

This seems to be purely an act of money grabbing from easy victims, drivers. With our soldiers being attacked and having their heads chopped off in the streets and the country on a high terror alert I just can't believe the police spending their time doing this. They have now forever lost a long time supporter. How to win friends and influence people. Not!0

I agree with the previous post:
Rule 178 makes it quite clear you can stop at the 2nd white line if necessary:
"If your vehicle has proceeded over the first white line at the time that the signal goes red, you MUST stop at the second white line, even if your vehicle is in the marked area."
I'd be asking down at the nick whether they are prepared to show video proof that this wasn't the situation.:j0
