How was Rutland Water?A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

It would be nice to get away for a few days, I admit. However, Mrs K is annoyed enough about me going to various events over summer whilst she is working.
I know I said I wouldn't comment but.....
I realise that most people who have to go to work when others are having fun feel miffed. That's natural. It's one of the upsides of being self-employed/term time working that you are available for childcare. The fact that you make it fun is all credit to you. Many parents push their children out into the street to play, park them in front of a DVD or take them to Asda to scream at them.:(
What I don't understand is that when she has leave from her job MrsK chooses not to spend it with the family. I don't know what her leave entitlement is but this year I think she's using 3 weeks of it to holiday with friends and in-laws. She can't have it both ways.0 -

My son had a great time.I had no sleep the night before and it's quite a drive from here, so quite a bit of coffee consumed despite not really drinking coffee anymore. Can't say I particularly enjoyed the day but only as a consequence of not feeling particularly well. Hopefully next year will be better (he already wants to go back :rotfl:).

Personally, I think it a duty of a parent to educate and enlighten their children. After all, it is a privilege to be able to see your own child grow and develop into their own personality, with their own own likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses. I find it awfully sad how many parents stick their children in front of screens to play mind numbing games giving them instant gratification and then wonder why their child has no discipline or patience.
My wife sees the time she has off work as time to sign out of "real life" and get away from "playing house" as she likes to call it. I fail to see what I can do about that, to be honest.2018 totals:

Thursday 6th August, 2015.
Dear Diary,
I'll call this one the entry where I actually write about the house project... :rotfl:
Had another nice day, apart from a quote for the roof coming in at around £12,000. We are also planning to overhaul the bathroom at some point and I can see that coming to around £5-6,000, maybe more? Must say the quote for the roof has been a bit of a wake up call, resulting in me listing some more prepped items for sale in the hope of raising some more money for the savings. There is a part of me thinking about just putting up with the current state of the place, we have been doing for longer than my son has been in this world, after all.
In other news, I've booked a place on two PGCE open days. Hopefully that will give me an idea of whether I want to apply the year after or not. No work at the moment apart from a few music pupils to keep the finances ticking over. Next week I've a few meetings with potential customers between going to a bat walk (yes, really) and Chatsworth young farmers.
Yours Faithfully,
Alex.2018 totals:

I agree there's not a lot you can do about her attitude although I do find it rather immature and irresponsible.
However the converse is, you shouldn't feel guilty if she doesn't approve of any jaunts you choose to arrange for you and LittleK or even for yourself. As I said, she can't have it both ways. What's sauce for the gander.....
 to some of the eye-watering quotes coming in for the house but so pleased to hear you're tackling it and planning how to pay. Quite an achievement and I'm sure you'll feel good about it when it's done.0 -
Blimey Alex is your house vast or thatched?
We had our roof done 3 years ago for 7k plus the scaffolding.
Its a big 4 bed detached with essentially two roofs (sp?) And a complicated valley thingy in between.0 -
Surely you are in the South East with a roof quote like that ????Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -

She's quite happy to be "irresponsible". That's one of the reasons she wants nothing to do with the finances. :rotfl:
Thanks, regarding the house. I'm not really pleased about how much money it's going to cost but I am pleased about the fact we won't be getting into debt to have the work done.Alchemilla wrote: »Blimey Alex is your house vast or thatched?

It's not what I'd call "vast" by any stretch of the imagination, nor is it thatched. I suppose it's big for a 3 bed detached by modern standards.
Was the £7,000 for clay tiles or slate?Surely you are in the South East with a roof quote like that ????
