I listed an engagement ring

There are no bids...so I can stop the auction.
I have added another payment option but stated I will not accept paypal.
Thank you all for the great advice....this is a learning curve for me!
As Alykatz says you cannot refuse PayPal and frankly why would any buyer want to pay a new seller by a method that gives them no protection?
All you can do is stop the auction and sell the ring elsewhere. If someone on eBay has offered you a suitable amount for it then you can try and get round the ebay blocks to exchange details with them and sell privately, however this is a breach of ebay rules and if reported (which Seems unlikely) you can get a warning from eBay. The filters to stop users exchanging details are very tight, but a mobile number usually gets through.
Seriously though, putting a note in your listing saying you won't take PayPal will make people think you are a scammer, and as said by Alykatz may well get your auction pulled and a warning from eBay.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. What I would do......
For a ring this expensive make it collection only. If they are genuine I'm sure they would want to see what they are buying first anyhow. Arrange cash on collection. Take them and cash to nearest bank/building society .When cash has been paid in then hand over ring.
Now I'm waiting for someone more knowledgeably to tell me why this is NOT the correct action !!I may not have thanked you but I meant to, honest!0 -
As far as the seller goes that would seem a safe enough way of doing it. If someone on here asked advice on that scenario as a buyer I'd tell them to run a mile. What I would do......

As per RFW, why would a buyer do that?
the listing will clearly show PayPal preferred and a buyer will know they can sit back and wait for item to be delivered, no risk to themselves.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Sticking no paypal in the listing may get the auction pulled if someone reports it. And it could be one of the people that offered you a BIN price. Remove the listing and hope you choose them to sell to outside ebay.
It will also attract scammers who know you cannot uphold that. They can pay by paypal and you wont be able to stop them.
Remove that text from your listing.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hi folks,
I've pulled the listing. You all got me nervous and rightly so.Dave Ramsey Fan[/COLOR]0 -
Hi folks,
I've pulled the listing. You all got me nervous and rightly so.
I think that is a shame. For someone else I sold a high value item. It sold to someone in Eastern Europe. Paid by PayPal. Sent tracked. Was very happy with it. No chargebacks or scams. There are millions of transactions on Ebay everyday that do not have a problem, unfortunately it is the few bad ones that you hear about.
If you are not confident about selling it on Ebay then I would go to a local jewelers or pawn shop. You will not get anywhere near its value but at least it is cash in hand with no worries.0 -
At least it won't get stolen now.0

Well, that's lovely for you, but of no comfort to the OP when they've been scammed.
This would be a problematic item to sell if you were an experienced ebay, but when you don't even understand Paypal and that you have to accept it, it is a potential nightmare.
Lots of items sell fine on ebay everyday, but sales like these attract a high percentage of con merchants. Far better to have the ring, than a completed sale complete with chargeback.
This is a face to face item sale, maybe less money, but I'd rather £500 real money than £1,000 from the bank of Toy Town.0 -

Me too! I'd want paypal protection if I was a buyer but as you say shoes is on the other foot as a seller!!I may not have thanked you but I meant to, honest!0
