It's your TV as you've taken the Sky box out of the equation and still have the problem over Freeview.

BrewerDave - if the SCART lead is faulty then why is the sound cutting out on the TV's internal Freeview tuner?

thanks to all who replied. i apologise for my lack of punctuation. unfortunately i have a bad habit of when i am upset i speak very fast and type in the same way, without stopping to breathe. i am told its the irish side of am family to blame. i will try to make it short, brief and with the odd full stop :o without warning last week the sound cut out on my alba tv (approx 6 yrs old). we brought up my portable, plugged it in and that had picture problems as well as sound. we were going to just replace it, after speaking on here,, when we next had opportunity. but in the mean time my son rang sky and after various tests, they said it was definitely a sky problem. they made arrangements for 2 weeks time. i then got to thinking last night, that if it was a problem with my sky box then if it was removed and i just relied on freeview for entertainment (just the freeview that comes with the tv) it should not be a problem, if no sky attached and the fault not with the tv, it should all be fine, but it wasnt, the sound cut out on tv in the exact same way, had it been attached. this then confused me (dim soul, i know) what appliance was then at fault? the tv or the sky box? hope this a little clearer and when son comes home will get him to try out your suggestions, thank you.
  • It's the TV. 6 years is a long time for an Alba TV!

Get a new TV but not an Alba or Bush.

Panasonic, Sony or at a push a Samsung.

i came on here for some friendly advice, not to be ganged up on, because of my shortcomings in how it was presented. i even apologised and explained why it had been written as it had, thank you to those who did offer some genuine and useful advice.

Nevertheless, you are not going to get any meaningful help on here unless you post coherently so that people can understand the problem. You apologised in post 13, and then carried on in the same style.
I suggest you go back and edit the posts you have already made if you still need assistance.
