Clydesdale Credit Card

Options
Hello. This is my first time posting but I wanted to pass on some info in case it's of use to anyone.

I'd not heard of Clydesdale and chose them through this site. I've just completed an application and received my acceptance letter and documents in the mail. I just wanted to pass on a bit of advice I've received from Clydesdale regarding additional card holders and the credit limit.

Firstly neither the instant decision nor the letter tell you what credit you'll be offered. Within the documentation it's stated that they'll only tell you the limit once you receive the card (which is of no use to me at all - I want to know before I accept a card). However the member of staff I spoke to pointed out that on the last page of the pack in the 'Declaration' section of the form under 'For Bank Use Only' there's a bit that says 'Credit Limit Recommended'. It's really not very obvious though!

Secondly, because I wanted an additional card holder they've sent me a list of identification documents that we have to take to our local branch to be verified. We live in Bristol - our nearest branch is apparently in London!

They've told me that the best way to add an additional card holder is for the applicant to get their application through first and then ask afterwards for the second card holder to be added. Apparently in this scenario they can then do the identification process for them electronically.

I've have had lots of credit cards and this certainly isn't the first time I've added a card holder and I've never had quite this much of a palaver before. Still I'll give it a go and see how I get on.

I thought I'd post this as I went into palpitations when I saw the very unhelpful paperwork! I hope this proves useful for someone else.

    • You picked a random Scottish Bank you'd never heard of.
    • You applied for and agreed to a card that doesn't provide the limit until the account is opened.
    • You wanted a secondary cardholder and they said you'd need to take ID documentation into one of their branches unless you wait for the account to be opened.
You should take that directly to the ombudsman scheme.

Well, I have a CB card too - but I'm from the Clydesdale valley area in Scotland.

Why did you choose this card/bank over all the others available?

Almost all the credit cards myself and my partner have taken out over the last few years have been recommended by MSE. All the others have been fine - had no reason to assume this one wouldn't be. I didn't accept the card until I knew what the credit limit would be.

    They do seem pretty amateurish!

Mozzy10: I chose this card as it was listed by MSE as the one with the longest non-fee deal. I card-tart and with some of the others haven't closed the account long enough ago to qualify for new customer deals.
