Equipment for bar code turnstile with web interface

Options
Hi all,
I need to organize one access control point which includes:
- 1 waist high turnstile
- 1 bar code scanner
- web-interface support
- low cost :)
Thus a turnstile would pass users after they present a bar code ticket to a scanner. And all the system must be operated via web interface.
What equipment would you offer to reach the goal with the possible lowest price ???
Thanks.

Before you start that think about how you do the bar code generation and the control of that, what you are trying to do with the access. I help run events where we use See Tickets so they provide unique bar code numbers that we validate on entry, use it twice and the laptop will throw an error message.

Waist high turnstiles are easily jumped so you may need someone to monitor it, if you do that it may be a lot more flexible to have someone with a PC and bar code scanner, especially as you may have to deal with non scanning bar codes due to poor printing (we use a print at home solution), people bringing the payment confirmation rather than the actual bar code ticket, or any other issue that have to be resolved on the door.

Just employ a very aggressive and scary looking bloke who will stamp your hand with some ink that concentrated nitric acid fails to remove. Oh and who's entire grasp of the English language extends as far as "You're not coming in with those on"

    :D

The context will tell you more about the requirement - but anything that requires a simple turnstile must be really low-risk/low-value, so can you work an honesty system instead? Is it to run 24h/day, or during opening hours only? For almost any event I can think of, having a doorman will be cheaper/more practical.

Thanks a lot. There is no certain place for using this access control system. I just making a poll among experienced people. The solution you offer is very rational and fitting. But if the control is needed at an open air especially during winter (for example at a skiing resort) it would be harder to check tickets manually with a barcode scanner. In such situation turnstiles with built in scanner become essential. Jumps can be prevented by the stuff, sitting near the turnstiles in a warm booth.

Google is a long way. It's allways faster to ask an experienced community.

A sober assumption but NO. These are unconnected topics.

It depends from what side to watch on this. Everything is serious. The people who already answered made a good contribution to the investigation.
