Hello and Help Please....

Hi all,
I'm Nicky from Northampton. It's been ages since I've written anything on a forum so please bare with me, thanks in advance!
I'm not sure if I am posting in the right area, but can I grab a quick it of help before I head to bed and everything else takes over my already frazzled brain...

I am a year into a 24 month contract with o2, and yet again they have put up my monthly charges ~ I know, it's o2, what would I expect ~ but with what I am paying now, for what I am "getting" it is a bit like kicking me when I am down.

I know they can do whatever they like, but how can I do something about it? Is there anything I can do about it?

I have an unlocked phone, so can use it whenever I want with whatever SIM I want. But it is the contract that will cost for me to get out of ~ £400 odd ~ more than I can afford.

I am paying around £45 (that's including VAT etc) per month for not very much, and I don't think it's very fair. Can anyone help?

I used to use my text messages a lot, but not anymore. Plus the 2gb 4G data is clearly not enough as I always go over. And I only use the calls a bit.

I would have liked to have a Three contract, but at the time (around two/three years ago) I could not get a signal in my home and had to get rid of them.

Pretty please with sugar on top, can any of you awesome folks help me out?

Thanks muchly
Nicky x :A

If your contract began a year ago then it was after O2 updated their terms and conditions to warn you about these price increases. By agreeing to the contract, you consented to them adjusting your monthly fee annually based on RPI, and so, unfortunately, you cannot terminate your contract without paying the penalty fees involved.

A lot of your monthly charge is going towards that free, once shiny, once brand new phone.

Next time you want a new phone buy it outright SIM free, and just pay for a monthly rolling SI only plan.

As for your current contract, you dont have any option other than to see it through until the end of the minimum term.

Any price rise should be within the current price inflation index which will be a minimal amount.

You have little to no chance of getting any reduction.

£45/month suggests you got a top end mobile and as such that phone has to be paid for.

If , say for instance , there had been a 0.50p price rise then that's nothing compared to the £45 tariff which you appear to have been happy to sign up for in the first instance.

I am sorry if this sounds harsh but you entered a contract and will have to fulfil your obligations under this contract.

If O2 have broken their side of the contract ( by increasing the tariff by more than inflation ) you may have had a case.

Why is a lot of people that come on this forum want something for nothing?

OP you took the contract out knowing O2 will increase there charges you signed the contract to say O2 could increase it there is no argument you have to pay it and Finnish the minimum term or Pay the remainder off which in your case would be something like £500 not £400 going on £45mth.
You should of thought about this before you took the contract out
no good crying about it now.

All true. The network can't "do what they like" and such a statement shows more about the person making it than the supplier.

Anyone who takes out the wrong bundle and ends up paying a high price is wearing a blindfold. That is down to you, OP - not the network.

May be the OP don't have Internet at home so can only use the data on his mobile

It can easily get used up now days just downloading apps and games alone can knock the data usage up i have a couple of games on my phone and one is about 1gb so your data allowance as gone twice on one game.

Its pretty easy to burn through 2gb of data via spotify, skygo, iplayer and facebook if you use the phone alot on the move.

Also of that £45 a month approx £20 is going towards paying off your phone.

Sell the (presumably expensive) handset and buy a cheaper one SIM-free. Use any balance to help fund the remainder of your contract.

no good crying about it now.

Seems some forgot the "be nice to newbie" rule here!
Just to clarify - I did happily take out the contact and have no problem paying for a service. I have had many contracts before, rarely do I regret having one because I do get a free phone AND usually good deals.

HOWEVER... When in debt up to my eyeballs, with little money coming in; I am a bit narked by paying arond £45 for not even half what I used to get...

And to clear up the data thing, I don't have internet at home. But am out a lot using emails (mostly) and social media. I use hardly any of the call allowance I get, and my texting is nowhere near what it once was. Aren't mobile phone companies etc meant to be checking if their customers are on the correct tariffs etc?

Or is that something else I shouldn't be asking about, seeing as it ALL seems to be my fault?:mad::mad::mad::mad:
