Maybe it was done on purpose, assuming that this house would attract a family with only one car, who didn't need another space and didn't want (or couldn't) to pay for more for something they didn't need. It goes both ways.

With my shoe on the other foot, my elderly mum lives in a small block of flats where there are two visitors bays. Each flat has one allocated parking space.

I get annoyed when I visit and people who live there are parked in the visitors spaces and I can't get in! I have said on many occasions I feel like putting notes on their screens saying you should not park in visitors bays! Just as you might if someone was in your allocated space.

The original buyers when the development was new were all aware and seemed to only have one car per flat, but a few have been let or sold on and the new people all seem to have two cars. I suppose it hasn't been pointed out to them quite as clearly as buying from new.

I really feel that if you have two cars you must buy somewhere with sufficient parking. I have always done this myself - it was a big hurdle when I was a first time buyer but it was important to me.

My concern is that with 2 cars, one of us might end up having to park in a visitor space round the corner - this will of course increase our insurance (if it's declared of course) and the risk to our cars.

You may not be able to park one of your cars in the visitors space, but it depends on any covenants you agree too.

We just moved to get away from this problem. Single garage was our car space and covenants stated visitors space for visitors only. So were to park the other cars for 4 bed family homes?

Legal advice from a QC paid for by MA supported the view that visitors spaces were only for visitors, so we moved to get away from it all. 4 months on we haven't looked back.

So check any covenants you are going to be asked to sign up to.
