CycleCraft - a discussion...

Where there is a shared footpath and cyclepath, the line is for the cyclists, not the pedestrians.
Pedestrians are allowed to use the whole of a shared path, but cyclists are only permitted to use the cycle part.
Edit. Ive looked but can only find advice saying pedestrians can cross or push bikes in area intended for cyclists but are otherwise expected to stay on the pedestrian side of the segregation line.0 -
Where has this whole cyclecraft thing come from?
It's just common sense not to ride in the gutter, and to take the lane when appropriate*.
*:
-On blind bends.
-In one way or multi-lane systems.
-Approaching and on roundabouts.
-When passing left hand junctions.
-When approaching parked cars.
-When turning right.
-When approaching a pinch point.
Notice the absence of 'when it's not safe to overtake'; I consider it an effect of some of the above circumstances, not a cause in itself.0 -

Maybe motorists should have a sign saying "I have passed a driving test and will drive as recklessly as I like".0 -
I think this evenings mention of cyclists as "anti-car" on 'Top Gear' has encourage their acolytes(trolls) to redouble their effort here.0

For those not familiar with it, Cyclecraft is published by the Stationery Office:

Perhaps some cycle training is needed...
Likewise... where there is a shared motor and cycle road (i.e. any road other than a motorway), cyclists are allowed to cycle in the primary position if they feel like it.
Perhaps some driver training is needed...
(Of course it's courteous for cyclists to only do so when it is necessary... as it is courteous for pedestrians to only use a cycle path when necessary.)0 -

So yous never answered my question : What training do cyclist have to go through in order to share a road with drivers who have proved they are competent ?
I have no beef with cyclists if they want to kill themselves then that's their affair. But I will not allow them to dictate to me what is safe and what's not. And at the same time I would never endanger any other road user.
So basically you've got a magic flying bus that lets you leap over cyclists?0 -

I don't think you'll be back TS, you're way out of your depth here...
...but I am interested to know what you would do if a cyclist was taking the lane and holding you back for a little while believing his safety was more important than your progress, especially if you believed his actions were overcautious.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
