Oh dear Monna , sounds fun
Our old dog keeps pulling the skin off his leg and will not leave it alone, it looks horrid but each time it starts to heal he is chewing it again ... The lampshade he has out smarted, he goes to the stairs and bangs the shade against the stairs till he pops the clips out ....clever thing
If he has got it on the kids call it the shade of doom , as he looks so fed up bless him ...
The pups will be 8 weeks old this weekend, both daughters are keeping one they are taking bets on who can train there dog first , so rolo is staying here ,will hopefully give the teanage dd some reason to be happy , nothing much else is at the minute ..
And the eldest is still off work ,for another few weeks ,so the dgc is getting a pup instead of a baby ...going to have fun
Funny few months we have had :undecided

Sorry you had a not great holiday nursemaggie, at least you got to see your family even if everyone wasn't well .

At least I escaped the Nora virus SiL went back to work the day I arrived and DGS went back to school.

I had lots of time with DGS. I think he has taught himself to read a little. I have a feeling he will not tell mum and dad until he can read every word. He will pour over a book for ages and then go and ask what one word says. He can write his own name and a few others.

Sorry about your buyer monna. Despite all the hassle I would rather buy and sell than go through the hassle of renting. They expect a reference from your last employer however long ago your retired. You are investigated on everything except your sex life and your toilet habits. It takes just as long as buying. They can take up to six months and then the expect you to move in the same day they approve you and on top of that you have to pay all of their expenses.

What a lovely time they are having with the dogs. Shut your bedroom door when you go out. I have had the same experience, one of mine was a library book. When I took back the remains they said I would be fined 5p for every month they had owned it.

"We've had it 23 years that comes to three times what we paid for it and it should have been discarded 13 years ago." she said. "I think we should let you off."

Can't believe the pups are 8 weeks old already Burtha.

Going for the results of my scan tomorrow. Keep everything crossed for me. Will let you know when I get back.

I text my prospective tenant yesterday with some information she wanted including the exact amount of the deposit, the deposit is one and a half times one months rent. the rent is £900 a month, cheap for this area as the house next door but one is costing £1500 pcm.
The deposit is going straight to the Tenancy Deposit Scheme, so I explained that the deposit would be £1350, shock horror, her mum is paying it for her and was expecting to pay £200.
Tenant was also surprised to realise she was to pay rent as well, she thought the deposit included the first months rent!
She spoke to her Estate Agent to see what they think would be a reasonable rent locally and what the deposit should be and was told I was being very reasonable and that if she didn't want my house they had a list of people who did!

Good grief Hester you couldn't make it up. Welcome to the real world 'prospective tenant'!
Didn't she think to check these things before saying she wanted to rent your house!

    Morning all,

Nursemaggie, ooh it sounds like the time with your grandson was a silver lining then!

Monna--grr. Although, Pickle made me laugh. She has a great future in negotiating.

Floss, we may come running back to town after a year, but we feel excited now and like we must give a go.

Hester--oh dear. Having just gone through the other side my experiences most closely match Nursemaggie's. We wer referenced, checked, prodded and scrutinized and we are renting far below our capacity to pay as we're still saving. I do imagine there are some real shockers from the LL's perspective though.

We picked up keys last night, but of course there was last minute drama. OH got an email a little before we set off announcing that the previous tenant had only moved out yesterday and so there is still outstanding work they'd promised to complete before we moved in. Most of it is relatively minor, but there had been a previous roof leek. We were assured it had been fixed and they would paint it before we moved in. Well. It turns out there is also a leek from next door's roof. We were both pretty angry, they surely knew things weren't going to plan but decided to wait until the last minute to tell us. Nonetheless, it sounds like there is a plan in place and given these are all structural issues we're well aware of our rights as tenants and will hassle them until it gets sorted so, a pain but not a disaster!

The house does look nice and after a minor panic we got the boiler working and it does indeed produce hot water. We've lucked out at our last two rentals and had top of the line so this was my biggest area of worry. I can work around and make do with most things or get other things repaired but a sub part boiler is just a step too far and there is little you can do to get it changed.

I'm still packing the old house and we'll do another run over in the car tonight after OH is off work. We're taking some oven curries so will test the oven out for tea and get some cleaning done while they cook. We've got rain, rain and more rain forecast. This would happen just as we're getting a nice garden. :rotfl:

Hugs to all who need them.x

FPK shame about the poor weather as you move home, but bear in mind that weeding is easier when it has been raining ;):D
