It's a cake tin like the Magic Porridge Pot too MONNA, will never be empty and there will always be 'enough' cake so you can all have some that want it.
Olaf has a dandelion and a beautiful blue grape hyacinth on top of his tea box and is now fast asleep in the sun. Thank you all for being so kind, even the littlest of furries gets into your heart and makes for sadness when they leave don't they?0 -
Lyn What a lovely resting-place for him x
monnagran Poor Rev! I hope she feels better soon. A cracked rib seems poor return for giving everyone a good laugh
elona i hope all went well at the weekend and that your OH feels better in the morning.
Chickens Hope your DH manages to get rid of the infection very soon.
I had a GP appt this afternoon to discuss the result of a 24-hour ECG I had 4 weeks ago. I had been told the result would take 2 weeks to get back to my GP, but he was on holiday at that time, so today was the first appointment I could get. What a surprise, the result wasn't back! <sigh> I now have an appointment for a telephone consultation next Thursday, in the hope it will be back by then. I'm keeping my finger's x'd that the hold-up is simply that the person whose job it is to look at the 24-hour ECGs has been on holiday too! I had an "ordinary" ECG just beforehand and they did have the result of that.0 -
Nursemaggie How did you get on with requesting your boiler be checked? I hope you weren't kept waiting on the phone too long.
I was wondering if anyone might know much about bacon collar? I've been looking through Frugal Food identifying all of the recipes I want to try and there is one called 'bacon with dumplings and parsley sauce' which looks a lovely winter warmer (if perhaps best reserved to the 'somtimes' list!) but it calls for bacon collar. I see that it is the part of the pig just above where back bacon is, but I can't find it on mysupermarket to get an idea of cost. I'd go and ask our local butcher but he retired and closed the shop last year.
Pleased to see a few variations on courgettes and marrows, and I'm keen to try the chilladas.0 -
Monnagran I hope it isn't a rib. Growing up is overrated anyway.
Ivy That is so very frustrating. I can't offer anything but commiserations.
Well, OH must be getting close to finishing the stew as it smells lovely. He only told me tonight the stew was meant to have bacon in it as we usually have it without but we had a couple of rashers going spare. I think tomorrow or the next day will be lemon curd day!0 -
Hugs Lyn and love to you all. by next year Olaf will probably have hundreds of grape hyacinths above his box. I once tried to clear a bed of those but they still kept coming up by the hundreds every year.
Sheila I hope DH was much improved when you visited him today.
Monna A gentle hug for a the rev, how can you expect her to grow up with you two living in the same house.
ivyleaf hope your ECG results have turned up for your appointment on Thursday.
Elona I hope DH has his MRI soon and he soon feels a bit better.
Been a lovely day here much warmer but no where near 23. Went into town this afternoon. Bought some baby wool to knit premature baby jackets. It says it is white but everyone else in the shop agreed with me it is cream. I compared it with the white I am knitting and there is no way it is white. I am glad it is cream looks quite nice.0 -

No one could have fought harder to keep him around, and it was the right choice at the right time. Its never easy, nor should it be, but all we can do is our very best, and your best couldn't be bettered. We had a brass band concert at church on Saturday evening. Their encore was a lively polka which inspired the Rev and an elderly church steward (he'd kill me if he could read that) to 'polka' down the aisle. Having reached the front they turned round and started to polka back down again. Their feet got hopelessly entangled and they ended up on the floor. As someone was heard to remark, "I've heard of rolling in the aisles but never actually seen it before."
I think the Rev has cracked a rib which may encourage her to grow up.FairyPrincessk wrote: »I was wondering if anyone might know much about bacon collar? Collar is also known as shoulder bacon, unless you find a deli that cuts on site then you may struggle to find this particular cut. It isn't as lean as back but overall there is very little difference in fat content of flavour between middle cut and shoulder. Middle being the more old fashioned cut that is frequently split into back and streaky these days.
Personally I'd look in the supermarkets or Iceland for "cooking bacon" or bacon mishapes/offcuts. Check the bottom of the pack and buy whichever pack shows the least white. (I often do this for anything that doesn't need even rashers, quiches, soups, stews, bacon roll etc)

Thanks Nuatha. I can definitely find something workable, and that will probably cut time off the recipe as well.0

Sorry to hear about Olaf MrsLW. The smallest furries certainly can leave a warm spot in your heart when they leave us.
FIL has an appointment with a surgeon Thursday thankfully, since its getting a fair bit worse. Then we'll see how long to get it pinned.
No joy yet on the flat sale. Though all who see it give nice feedback, so I guess when someone sees it who is actually looking for one rather than just sticky beaking, we might do ok.
Monnagran, hearing about the revs antics almost makes me want to go to church... and being an enthusiastic athiest, that's quite something
Hugs to all otherwise, I'm still one finger typing on a tiny tablet which makes posting hard.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Sorry for your loss Mrs LW another furry friend for the rainbow bridge xx0
-
Thinking of you Mrs LW
Softstuff, that's a terrible delay for your FIL
Monnagran, You made me chuckle, I can just imagine the scene! I hope The Rev is feeling better.
Well my friend from Oz is here and we are behaving very badly! We had G&Ts at 4pm yesterday then went out for a curry (she says they aren't the same in Oz), we walked, caught a bus, ate then got the train back which is only 1 stop - but we didn't pay! Let's see if we can be better today.
Hoping for a better day here weatherwise, enjoy the sunshine if you have it.0
