Hugs to you monna, the plans in place sound very sensible. So sorry to hear of your DIL's loss, it must have come as a shock to you all. You are one of the most level headed people I've come across, it's only normal to panic every now and then. Look after yourself.
Sorry to hear of other sad news on here, my thoughts are with you all.
I'm off to Chester tomorrow after work to stay with my Aunt - she's 80 and we are going to celebrate my Uncle's 90th birthday. He is in a care home and doesn't know any of us any more, won't know it's his birthday but will be his usual polite and charming self, I am quite looking forward to it!0 -
McC sorry for your loss. Its not easy coping with dying slowly I am sure but so hard for the family when they take their own life. Then you have someone who wants to stay alive and fights to the end.
Me and mine have been remembering 2 people we lost on the same day 7 years apart and both still hurt. First was a friend of my kids who was attacked in the street and died of his injuries - wrong place wrong time nothing more or less. The other was a wonderful friend of mine who didnt tell anyone how ill he was and died alone - that hurt so many of us.
We came through the storm undamaged here, thankfully but I could hear roof tiles tinkling down from someones roof round the corner.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Storm Doris took 3 of my fence panels down, the neighbour who can't seem to keep her knickers on is complaining because the panels are blocking the pavement! 'So walk on the other side!'
The world and his wife have knocked on my door to tell me the panels are down.
Like I didn't notice my garden is now open plan? My L&M & I were both out in the road at different times shifting the debris.
I hope everyone is safe.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
We are fine I think, but the house opposite the end of the street is haivng a load of building work done including a new roof, so it is surrounded by scaffolding and thick plastic sheeting; The plastic sheeting round the roof came loose in the storm and has been flapping, making a terrible din. I feel so sorry for the people living on either side of it. Hopefully the builders will be able to fix it today, now things have calmed down.
nursemaggie Sorry, I think I accidentally misled you - my DGS's birthday is in December. He is engaged now and renting a flat with his fiancee but still hopes to go to Japan one day, so I really hope he'll manage it.

Ivyleaf & Nursemaggie - it was my DGD's 23rd birthday on Tuesday - think it got buried among the more important things going to on!
Well my unexpected free day ended up with me biting the bullet and taking photos and listing stuff on Fleabay that I've been procrastinating about - just hope it will have been worth the effort!
Doris didn't have much effect in my area apart from a windsurfer who decided he'd like to test the response times of the local RNLI!!!! Saw on the news how much chaos the wind had caused and the poor girl who got killed with flying debris - so sad.
Wind dropped and Beautiful spring sunshine today - what a difference! DH will be working on his trike today as some more parts arrived yesterday - hopefully it will do the trick!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Morning all.
What a difference a good nights sleep makes. Yesterday I think reaction set in for all of us. DS2 was stressed all day and he is usually so laid back as to be horizontal. He went a few doors up and took it out on the garden that he looks after for an elderly man with learning difficulties. He and Pickle had a lovely time making homemade burgers for dinner. Dora the Destroyer enjoyed the one that she stole from the kitchen counter, breaking one of DIL's favourite bowls in the process. I don't think she enjoyed the shouting that ensued.
Pickle heard the news about her Grandma from DIL over the phone. She came up to me afterwards and said, in a very matter of fact way, "Do you know Grandma has died?" I said that I had heard. "Well," She continued, "there's some good news. Gramps will be able to take Grandma's bed out of the living room and watch television whenever he likes." Such pragmatism!
I just felt completely wiped out all day and thought that if I had to play one more game of WHOT with Pickle I just might run amok, if only I could summon up the energy.
We were all in bed by 9 o'clock and slept all night.
This morning is a new day
Again, thank you all so much for keeping me afloat.
McC: Love and hugs to you. It is so much worse when you don't have the chance to say Goodbye.
I hope to spend a while spoiling DGS today as he is going back to his mum's tomorrow ready for school on Monday.

Small children are very practical in these situations Monna... I was getting breakfast with my niece and nephew a couple of days before my dad's funeral.
Me: How many places do we need to lay at the table?
Niece: Well, now that Grandpa's dead...0 -
