Funnily enough I didn't like our b&m, although that has now moved and a shiny new, huge home bargains has moved in, much more to my liking. I think the problem with b&m was mostly the staff, very young folk with no people skills and a couldn't care less attitude.
Visited the new home bargains this morning for some more hangers, theirs are the cheapest (kind of velvet covering) and my new wardrobe deserves matching hangers! Hung my summer stuff in there but I doubt I will be wearing it for the next couple of days, we have had hail and sleet today, much different to yesterday.
I hate dust, in whatever colour! There is less of it at this house, the last house had a coal fire and a log burner. Just about to have a log burner put in so there will be plenty of the stuff about, firstly from them putting it in and then with using it - although hopefully it wont be needed till autumn time.
I've had the heating on this evening for the first time in over a week but it was too cold in here. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.0 -
Im not an expert on dust , but this is my thoughts on the "colour " of dust.....
If you hoover your bedroom then the dust will be white as its mostly dead skin that you hoover up , friction when changing clothes touching the skin you lose dead skin.......
White dust in bathroom also dead skin , plus in my case its Johnsons baby powder , as I tend to use lots everyday , I adore the stuff....:)...
Well thats my theory and im sticking to it ....
Went to see hubby today and he is still in bed and looked quite poorly , he is on anti biotics , such a shame at 49 yrs old , I took him some lovely fresh grapes , a lovely bunch of his favourite flowers lillies , and he was so pleased to see Bo , Bo jumped on his bed , hubby loved it , I stayed for only 90 mins as he soon got tired .......
Mar...Sorry to hear that your not feeling up to much , I hope the sea kelp will kick in before too long ....Also cant believe how cold it is oop north.......Its been quite nice here today , had a little rain mid morning and it cleared to a sunny afternoon.......
Welcome to the newbies on the thread...
The garden is bursting with buds this past few days , oh I do love the spring so much.......Im off to bed pretty soon and hope your all having a peaceful weekend...SheilaMy motto is " one life live it ".....:)0 -
Oh boy I have a bit of a hangover this morning. Was a friends husbands birthday last night and a cheap restaurant had been selected a couple of weeks back so I duly budgeted including a glass of wine. She texted me before going that she'd found out it was byo... so I took a $4 bottle of wine instead!
And I could have smacked the selfish mare who dragged 3 large wheeled suitcases down the stairs by my flat, whilst wearing clattery heels, at 02.30 hrs this morning. I think that's too much luggage for a holibobs so hope she's doing a moonlight flit and won't be reversing the racket in a fortnight.FairyPrincessk wrote: »And, should Nursie be found fighting fit I could definitely do with a visit.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I love my Saturday off. I work every other week end. So today was sunny and now it's grey, overcast and very windy.
Breakfast out with an old friend and then a haul around the shops. Picked up a couple of towels for number one son who is setting up his own home on May 1st.
The Collie is sulking. He can't get to the groomers until the 22nd and he's smelling a bit like a dog. I'm working on the knots behind his ears, so he doesn't have to get them shaved.
No idea what is for supper. I'm off to stare at the freezer and pantry.0 -
Morning fencers.
Glad you had a nice day off Wondercollie.
I'm off the the cinema with DD and her BF today, free tickets so can't be bad. I can't believe what a lovely weekend I'm having and so cheap too!
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
3 suitcases might = 1body... she might be back but they won't
don't invite her in for gawds sake... she's a bit like a vampire that way. Just point her at the neighbours, go inside, lock your doors, close you windows and hide behind your sturdiest bit of furniture. When the noise has died down, give it a couple of days and you can go back outside
:rotfl: I had the same thought about the body but thought I'd keep that one to myself. Thanks for the advice about nursie. Should I leave some biscuits and milk by the door or is she more of the gin and cigarettes type?0 -
Glad you enjoyed your meal out, Softstuff, and I can testify that your advice re Nursie is bang on the nail. People need to handle her with care at all times, she's the ultimate sanction against un-neighbourliness. Which I think ought to attract coporal punishment, given the amount of aggro it causes. You should have heard the calls which came into the council after Easter Weekend, the whole city must've gone b*ts**t crazy partying.
I spent a couple of hours on the allotmentino yesterday once it'd stopped raining. It got out sunny but there was a howling gale. I planted two rows of beetroot but they are clustered and relatively heavy seeds and still just about took off before I could cover the seed drill, so I though I'd postpone planting lighter seeds like carrots and parsnips until today because they definately would fly away. Can I share a Proud Gardener Moment (this is a bit like a proud parent moment but, obvs more tragic) about a whopping great parsnip I harvested yesterday? OK, I guess you can't stop me......
Dahlings, it was 16 inches long, 10.5 inches around the top and weighed 1lb 1.5 oz. I am going to be incorporating it into tonight's supper. Most disappointingly, there were none of my lottie pals in range to show it off to, we gardeners share each others' triumphs and commiserate over each others' tragedies. Gardening can be a rollercoaster of emotion, particularly when there are slugs to wage war on.
Some of you may recall the Great Slug Plague of summer 2013, when I was killing several hundred of them on each visit. It must have worked as I saw precisely six giant slugs in 2014. They didn't see me coming, mwah ha ha.:rotfl:
ETA; Nursie favours rot-gut whiskey with rattlesnake heads floating in it, and chewing tobacco, plus petit fours. The final element of that triad is completely baffling to me, but she likes them on doilies and bone china plates. She says that if you're careful, you can smash bone china in such a way as to have an effective cutting edge. Do not, repeat NOT let this woman loose in a china shop.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Although things started off noisy last night it was blissfully quiet when I woke up and took my ear plugs out. So nice to have a good night's sleep in our own bed!
We're off to a vintage market today with OH's parents. It is in a good location for both parties to meet so we go fairly regularly. Last time there was a stall with table cloths and other linens for a pound so I'll go with my measurements and see if I find anything interesting for sewing, might find something more suitable for a curtain than what I have. OH is making pizza for tea, always a treat and we've more of the lancashire courting cake for pudding tonight. I'll clean the bedroom tonight and change the linen as that is my usual Sunday afternoon chore, much to Maggie the cat's annoyance as she loses her afternoon nap spot and then the hoover is brought out which she hates.0 -
Does Nursie do slugs, GQ? Or would that be a force far too destructive to unleash in an allotment? The parsnip sounds fabulous.0

I fear so. Nursie doesn't actually know where the allotment is, and I intend to keep it that way. Gawd knows what kind of damage a psycho nursemaid/housekeeper/ general factotum could cause up there. This is, after all, a woman rejected by elite military regiments across the world for being far too bada$$.
F'rinstance, there is a shed on a neighbouring plot which has been collapsing for the past 16 months. Its collapse has now reached the point of roof-stove-in-sides-splayed-propped-up-on-my-adjacent-cold-frame. Bygorry, if Nursie saw that, she'd vault onto the other plot, dismantle it bare-handed, stack the contents neatly and shove some of the trash were le soleil don't shine when she saw the other plotholder.
They're not bad people (not the overspray herbicide people) and I can't countenance them ending up in A & E having to explain how certain things ended up in certain orifices.:rotfl:
If I was passive-aggressive (and had a helper, can't move it unaided) I could move the cold frame to what will be its eventual location which is presently a bean patch, and let gravity have its way with the shed. As it is, I limited myself to chucking their roofing felt back over the fence.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
