Sad to say, Hester, that it sounds entirely typical of your place of work

Greenbee, will be having a casual chat to the senior manager about yesterday if she's in today. The thing is, this particular receptionist is leaving mid January and that seems to have further impacted her attitude and performance. Some mistakes are blindingly obvious and I can fix easily, I can also answer her how to questions (because many things are common sense). I shouldn't have been put in that position (nor should she, she seems like a square peg in a round hole and needs training and mentoring, but 90% of jobs now have a swim or drown training program). MTSTM, the techs have the right to ask, it's our job to keep their day smooth and hassle free, their work is far more taxing and risky than ours.
Mardatha, I'm wary of all office politics and adopt a Swiss position. This means in effect, everyone tells me everything, but at work, unless it affects me directly, I keep just working!
Hester, good luck with the solicitor. A thought about the Wonderful Wellbeing person, I wonder if their energies could be directed at finding ways to improve wellbeing that were free to staff... free massages from local trainees, free raffles (everyone gets a ticket, she has to find the prize), a supply of flasks.... I nearly had a coffee rebellion at work when we ran out, but I think they like me better caffeinated, so the subsequent order was increased.

SS, I hope you don't have too many problems with the square peg, It's not an easy position to be in. Love the phrase Swiss position. I hear all sorts of things in my office, people think I don't speak 'teacher' I do, my mother was one.
As for the WWI, I probably could tolerate her if she didn't trill like a bloody budgie and gush like burst pipe, as it is I am greeting her suggestions with a stony look and an oft repeated phrase 'and who's paying for that?'
I have suggested free treats but as she considers anything under £50 so cheap as to be seen as free my suggestions are falling on deaf ears.
I feel I'm contributing in my own small way as I have provided extra tea, coffee and milk to the limited supplies at work.
No doubt soon I will be hauled over the coals for not being positive, I will then say the same thing I said last time 'I'm positive I'm being $h!t on'.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Hester Sounds like the government office where I used to work; "wonderful" ideas would be passed down from On High, then we'd be asked our opinions on them, and if anyone suggested "It would be better if we....", or pointed out that this idea had been tried twice before and hadn't worked and that was why we weren't already doing it like that, they'd be told they were being negative.0

Oh my, I seem to have killed the thread
Not only that, but I still haven't written any Christmas cards.
But we did remember to order a chicken from the butcher's, to be collected on Christmas Eve.
I have bought a dark-red/purply knitted hat with a pompom. Opinions please....is 63 too old for a hat with a pompom? It's a lovely colour, and goes with both my winter coats ("ordinary" and "posh") but I wonder if young people will snigger(possibly that wouldn't be too bad if they didn't do it in my hearing.)
I can't decide whether to keep it or take it back for a refund. I do need a haircut and I think it will look better after that!0 -
The hat sounds fine to me. My dds bought me a grey one with a pom pom and they act as my very own fashion police"This site is addictive!"

Go for the pom-pom ivy! If you like it, the colour's right and it keeps you warm who cares what others think. I very much doubt if the younger folk will even notice you, they are too busy looking at their phones!
HH, perhaps you could suggest that WWI goes to work somewhere else.
The kitchen is coming on, some units fitted, hopefully it will be finished by the end of this week. I have to say I was quite excited when I got home from work yesterday!
Have a good weekend.0 -
Ivyleaf of course you haven't killed the thread! We've all been busy avoiding the C-word
Am sitting on the sofa writing Christmas cards, while watching the first series of Cold Feet on catch-up

Well if folk laugh at a 63 year old wearing a pom pom hat I'm sure they'll be laughing at a 37 year old. I aint no fashionable spring chicken anymore and to be honest I don't careMy pom pom is faux fur.
I'm so like you Ivyleaf... I don't like different things for different things. I like one set of accessories that go with everything.
I have a lovely set of ear muffs that I was gifted and would love to wear them but they're purple based in colour and won't go with my ensemble! :rotfl:0
