My dad's saying was the same. only the Scots version monna - - "It's a sair fecht and ye mauny weaken" Same thing though - and I used to laugh at how dour it sounded. Now I'd agree with it!0

So, a little amusement for you all. Despite us having 3 lawns, I've never mowed or strimmed. Thanks to hubby's wrists, he hasn't been up to the task. I set to with the strimmer, for me backbreaking work, noisy and hard on the hands with vibrations. Starting the petrol mower, I pulled the cord and managed to lift the mower up and drop it on my foot. By the time I'd managed 1 lawn it was dark.
Today we decided to purchase some shears. 60 seconds later I was dripping blood and hunting for a bandaid. I continued on.
Lawns are neat though....:DSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Just think of all those useful skills you're adding to your list softstuff!
Have filled in the forms for my mother's pension - she just needs to sign them and have them witnessed (probably best done by someone other than me). And have found my dad's credit card statements so need to call and find out the balance and pay it off so we don't end up with letters arriving for non-payment.
We're going to the registration office tomorrow, so I need to work out how many certificates I need. They're £4 if I get them tomorrow, £7 if I ask later, so I think I might get £10 as it'll save waiting for them to come back.0 -
greenbee - you're right to a few certificates, you will move on much faster as everyone wants one right away. Do remember to keep one with you though, I made the mistake of sending them all away and had to wait a week for one to return.
Hope your work starts again soon softstuff, I get really annoyed with half finished jobs, stops you moving on. How do you manage without a WM? Bet you were spitting feathers with the garden machinery, hope you're not too injured.
I still have no kitchen - washing up in the bath, kettle and micro (not that I've used it yet) in the living room and the bedrooms littered with bags of pots and pans, etc. There are now walls and a floor in there and the builders re-plumbed the WM for the weekend.
Just had salad for breakfast, actually quite enjoyed it and there's more than enough for later too. It's surprising what you can manage without normal facilities!0 -
Greenbee, we got 6 certificates for my dad. It was plenty and his was a complicated estate.
Mowing is indeed s good skill to have and I think by the end I'd got the hang of it. Silly I hadn't learned before. Camelot, the lack of washing machine has an unexpected advantage. ... the launderette is 1 floor down from a cafe that does a fantastic cooked brekkie. We share kne at the weekend when it's washing, take it home and hang it out.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Greenbee, sorry to hear of your loss.Spend less now, work less later.0

My condolences Greenbee.
Monna, we moved into a fixer upper with a 10 month old, it was still a fixer upper when we moved out 8 years and 3 children later. My kids grew up thinking it was normal to have a heap of sand in the dining room!
I once had to mow my front and back lawns in an afternoon as we had visitors due the next day, I didn't finish until 10pm.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Much love Greenbee, hope things go smoothly with the paperwork.
Softstuff, you should be banned from sharp things
Thought I had a busy few days but things have ironed themselves out so I am actually off duty all day tomorrow as Hubs is spending the day with DS who is taking him to his psychiatrist appointment. This means I can hopefully finish painting Dgs's bedroom and get on with setting it up with all the lovely bits and bobs I have made or bought from Cs's.
I am also hoping to move the light up reindeer out of the living room too, damn things are nibbling the carpet. Hubs has artistically draped lights on the shrubs in the front garden
and as he has gone to bed early I may slip out and sort them out. This is the first Christmas he has ever been interested in anything and isn't moaning - I am shocked but when he wanted to put the tree up in early November I did draw a line.
Hester congratulations on sorting the money out and having a much smaller mortgage. Its good when something goes right.Clearing the junk to travel light

Never happened before.
Baking until the early hours.
6 dozen mince pies put in oven.
6 dozen mini vesuviuses taken out of oven.
Delicious mincemeat oozed out of the delicous pastry and set and the resultant mess had to be chiselled out of the pans.
By 1.00am all the brandy wasn't in the mincemeat.
Mr Co-op is about to be 6 dozen mincepies down.
Off to fall on my sword.
HAPPY CHRSTMAS!

:rotfl: well, happens to the best of us Monnagran. Careful with the chisel (that might be how hubby did his wrist!)
Ginny, I'm as bad with blunt things as sharpand if you don't feed the reindeer properly, what do you expect them to do? You're lucky it wasn't the curtains
