Thanks moneytoshort ,
Agree with what you said ,its is such a shame that the old leader refused to make plans and engage with anyone else ,young or old ....thank god dh realises that he is not a one man band and need others ,so far so good ..
If the club were to close it would be something else lost to the village ,as it is we have no buses after 6pm ,the veg shop is also the post office ,1barbers,1 hairdresser,Dr surgery on reduced hours and a pharmacy ... Hence why we have to cars,dh works is about 15 miles in one direction and mine is 10 in the other direction, plus kids pick ups ...nothing in village for kids ,youth club they go to is 8 miles away ...hence why kids party tomorrow ....looking forward to it ,think it will be mad busy but fun ....have even roped mil in to serve hotdogs ,sure she will love it :rotfl:
Right better go make the tail for the rabbit
Happy easter one and all x£223/ £250 GC0 -
Kidcat....Glad you popped in and that your doing ok.....
Harduphester.......Lovely to see you back posting too...You need to rest more after your hospital ordeal......
Cameolot1001....That was a good job you managed such a long journey and not needing the loo, thats terrible bug going around, ive so far missed it , but your home safe now......
Floss....Sounds like you have been very busy on the allotment planting taters , but its lovely that you can have a lovely soak in the bath afterwards , I done that the other day worked hard outside then laid in a super bubbly hot bath for near on an hour , it was bliss , made me feel so tired after the bath...........
It started off cloudy this morning but soon turned out sunny , I went to a boot sale sale at 8 , and the field was packed out and thats a big field, I got 2 large pots , one a square shape in wood and painted green glade big enough to put a shrub in , and pot 2 is terracotta in green and quite large .....
When I next go to tescos I will get a couple of box shrubs to put in them ......
I need some grass seed so I will pick that up tomorrow , as today every shop was shut , so ive prepared the area that needs doing , so much needs doing now the garden is starting to grow ......I absolutely love this time of year , its all go just how I like it .......
Well its unusual for me to be awake at this time of a night so im now off to bed ....SheilaMy motto is " one life live it ".....:)0 -
Glad to see everyone seems to have had a good Easter and made the most of the good weather. Been glorious here too and forecast the same for rest of week. Back to work tomorrow doing overtime but saving up for a trip away with my friend to see Madonna in concert in Prague. My sis lives there just now so free accommodation so that saves a bit and flight and tickets are paid so just a bit of spending money to save for. Also need to do some work around the house or maybe just need to pay Sheila to come and clean lol.
Kidcat and Hester nice to see you both back posting again.
Take care everyone xx0 -
Well so much for making a tail ..ended up going to work at club ,word is spreading and people young and old are going back to the club ,love it ,don't think I have seen it this busy in years ...so just came back now ,feet up and chilling out a bit ,before I start again....
Other that the club I have been outside lots today ,pottered about in the garden then cleaned/sorted dogs outside ...then in a moment of madness decided to bath all 6 dogs ...so picture me ,kids old paddling pool, jug, shampoo, towels ...after the first dog I wasn't too wett ,2nd (large Labrador) decided she wanted to rest her head on my shoulder all the way through her bath looking into my eyes ,I may as well have been in the pool with her ...by number 6 I looked fab ...:D so they all look wonderful and smell nice ..well till tomorrow:rotfl: still need to do the 2 in the house ....
Catch up soon x£223/ £250 GC0 -
Burtha, That makes it all the more important that the club remains open (ie that its a village with limited facilities).
I'm watching a nearby village now. Its a nice village, but I've seen one useful community facility there shut in the time I've been living here (pretty recent move) and two others are under threat (one of them courtesy of bad management!!).
You don't really realise, unless you are in a smaller place, that each and every facility there matters. In the city I've come from I'd moan if something I liked closed and then move swiftly on/plenty more of everything to choose from and not a problem.
But, in a smaller place, it does make a big difference. I've seen reducing hours of one community facility since I've come to the town I moved to here and it concerns me and I hope there won't be any more of that.
Another community facility (which I am currently volunteering in) has turned out to have a problem with a particular volunteer who believes they run things and is very prone to trying to tell the rest of us what to do. I haven't encountered that sort of attitude before in voluntary work and if I was back in my city I wouldn't think twice and would have already voted with my feet after the first try-on at Telling What To Do by that person, but I'm still struggling on with it at the moment and hoping this person can be "tamed" - both from my pov and because they seem to be putting other volunteers off with their attitude too and I can see this facility closing if that person wont accept they cant act like this. A friend of mine who witnessed the latest episode has described it in very strong terms and wondered if there is legal redress against this person and I must say I've not encountered that type of behaviour at work before - unless it was a paid work situation and I had no choice but to put up with it.0 -
Moneyistoo......I've encountered that too in village life, actually all that everyone has been describing but I still wouldn't go back to a large town to live in.
I have woken up in a positive mood this morning. This week, my boss turned down a job offer for me without asking me first, and yesterday DH volunteered me for a project which entails hard work (that is not the problem though), uses one of my precious days off from the paid stuff and entails a 400 mile round trip - also without asking first.
I have woken up in a different frame of mind this morning, and I will NOT be doing the project. Will tell DH later when he gets back from his paid stuff.
Have also decided to join a new social/sports club in the village - haha. I need the interaction, so will see how it goes.
Happy Easter Monday everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Pros and cons Jazee indeed.
The plus side yesterday was that whilst I was out walking one complete stranger made me a drink and another one gave me a lift when I was coming home. I usually go out with the attitude "Open to chats" and it often happens that I've done quite a bit of chatting by the time I get home again. That didn't happen much in my city.0 -
Morning fencers it's a lovely day up here with bright blue skies and sunshine and forecast to be up to 14 or so degrees, wonderful stuff. DD and I are going to wander into town later on and see what is open and will be trying a new recipe for supper this evening which will be beetroot, carrot and potato fritters (like mini rosti) with a yoghurt garlic and dill sauce which should be very tasty. I'm off home again tomorrow and looking forward to seeing my 'boys' again although poor He Who Knows has got a spring cold and s very snuffley and I'd rather not catch it myself. Have yourselves a good day and enjoy this nice weather.0

That sounds very tasty Lyn! Could it possibly be hay fever HWK has got? Mine is already quite bad, and you can start getting it at any age.
Burtha It's lovely that you and DH are running the club, people must be so pleased. Hope your special event goes well - it sounds as if it will be a roaring success :j
Jazee Well done for turning down the project! at your boss though!
Kidcat Lovely to "see" youbut I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I hope you can find just the right one DS needs.
Hardup Hester Sorry you're having a horrid time with your eyes. I hope the injection helps.
Lovely day here today, but we won't be going anywhere much as OH had a minor op on his back last week and doesn't get the stitch out until Wednesday, and it tends to prickle and "pull" when he's driving. Plenty to do around the garden though.
Goodness, I quite forgot! Softstuff I'm so sorry to hear about your FIL. I hope he has a speedy recovery. xx0 -
Good morning.
Lots of lovely stories about how you all spent Easter. Everyone seems to be in good heart.
Pops: Enjoy your walking phase. At least the weather seems to be kind to you.
burtha: well done to you and DH. You are obviously making a difference to the community around you and that is such a worthwhile (and exhausting) thing to do. I imagine it's a bit like we do when trying to inject life into a dead church. We've done everything from themed evenings ( forties night, various musical nights etc) to Saturday morning coffee mornings with cake stalls, people's decluttering stalls and, a winner this one, bacon rolls.
It's fun but it doesn't give you much spare time. As Moneytoshort said, the trick is to get other people involved. Encourage others to take responsibility, they'll say they can't but with a bit of support they often surprise themselves. I'll think of you as I make bunting to try and cheer up the dead boring coffee mornings we are having at the moment.
Softstuff: Fingers crossed that the Open Day has success. Tell your DH that food disappears in a trice but cherrywood tables will last for ever.
Fuddle: Glad that you have had a lovely time. You'll have joined the Bank Holiday traffic by now so have a safe jouney home.
The west coast of Scotland is beautiful. I had a friend who lived in the Outer Hebrides so I know that part of the country quite well. It is beautiful but WET. It may be better on the mainland but in the islands they reckon that there are only 14 days in the year when they have no rain. My friend now lives in the north of Scotland and says that she is much more cheerful these days and puts it down to the light.
Well we had a great Easter. Yesterday was sunny and beautiful. It also happened to be the Rev's birthday so after the Easter Morning service we went out to lunch with a friend and then walked to a place called Heaven's Gate which looks right over Longleat House and the surrounding countryside. Absolutely glorious. Today looks to be the same weather wise so I am going to be out in the garden sorting out my containers which have been piled up in the courtyard since we moved in.
