Will have a drink for you both when I call last orders in approx 20min.......£223/ £250 GC0 -
Makes you wonder doesn't it Softstuff, on the bright side at least my L&M is more than capable of effecting the repair so there won't be any extra expense having to pay someone to do it.
My shortest job was half a day, started at 9 as the telephonist, at 10:30 I was told I had to do accounts as well, by 11:30 I realised this meant sorting out the mess left by the previous incumbent. At 1 I went for lunch, went to a nearby employment agency and started a different job at 2!
My longest job is where I am now.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
..and I thought my shortest job was short Hester - ie sent along to a small firm by an employment agency for what I was told was a secretarial job. I had an interview with the boss and he only mentioned secretarial work and I then found they expected me to help work out financial quotes. Duh! The fact I didn't even pass my maths O level should have alerted them to the fact that I might not be much good at figurework. Anyway it's not the norm imo for secretarial jobs to include maths - so I wouldn't have been expecting that.
I got sacked after 2 weeks - for being unable to do the maths - duh! You would have thought they would have asked applicants what they are like at maths........at which point I would have answered "I can manage to work out the figures for my own personal finances...end of....". and not been given the job in the first place.
I don't mind sorting out "previous persons mess" - in fact it's one of my things to walk into a new job/voluntary group I'm helping in/etc, then spend some time assessing its organisation (or lack of) and then start re-organising it and have the running of it all neat/tidy and readily understandable by anyone. Followed by the variation on a theme of peoples response being "What was that whirlwind that just went through everything - and it's all fallen back down on the ground reorganised in totally different form to the way it was before?" LOL. I blame my father for that - as he's prone to "Analyse then Reorganise".0 -
My shortest job was an hour and a half, as a cleaner in a bakery! I went for tea break and out the door....Carolbee0

Happy Birthday Ivy sorry I'm late xx
I remember in my teens in the 60s being able to do that with jobs, if you didn't like one then you just left and got another one to start next day. It sounds a real nightmare now, jumping through hoops and grovelling for even the rubbish jobs.
God I sound like my own granny here lol.
Watching the Vic Slum prog episode 2 the other night certainly revealed the strongest of the characters didn't it. I think the Jewish tailor's wife is really good and also the other family granny who had her roots in the east end and family who lived through it. Those two were really tough and would survive. The Irish brother and sister look like they could cope with anything as well. It was lovely to see the Irish girl's cheerful wee face and her smile.
My mum would never speak of her childhood or early life - not ever- but from the kind of person she was then I'd think it was pretty rough.
When you look at some females on FB having hysterics all over the page because somebody said something to-or-about them, or they're having a bad day, you have to wonder how the hell they would cope in times gone by! (ok well I'll get the daily moan over early)0 -
Hope you had a good day Ivyleaf.
Congratulations to you Softstuff.
We used to sign up to an agency in the holidays for work, I was sent to a hospital laundry where the conditions were appalling. When the sheet ironing machine stopped we were expected to walk across the arm and release it. I think I managed an hour before walking out. Got another job in the afternoon - those were the days.0 -

That's so true, mar!
Thanks for the cake, Floss, it was gorgeous
Fuddle How are you doing? I hope you're managing to take it easy, but knowing you I rather doubt it....Thinking of you.
Goodness, I made a hair appointment yesterday and was surprised to receive an automatic text just now which required me to text "YES" back to them to confirm. Mind you, that's quite handy when you have a memory like mine
It will be a graduate who'll be cutting my hair today, but I'm afraid I won't be a very interesting client for her, as I just want about 4 inches chopped off the ends! I'd love to have it cut and styled regularly, but it's simply unaffordable.
Oh dear, DS just heard OH groaning because his hips were hurting as he turned over in bed, so I don't think we'll be going far afield today :eek:0 -
Thanks for the congratulations, I hope I last a while for sure. I've never quit quickly though and have sometimes stuck around longer than I should have.
Ivyleaf, I keep getting text reminders for everything, it's wonderful!
Hester it is indeed a blessing having the nous to fix everything, but no doubt better to not have so many things go wrong in the first place.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070
